I found my dads best mate from the 1960s by a combination of google, guile, and a very odd phone call. It didn't help that my dad could only remember his 'best friends' nickname, and had forgotten his first name. The names of his children eventually proved to be the key. Said friend had emigrated to New Zealand. Still found him (by doing a google.co.nz search).My dad & friend met up a few months ago.

It took me 8 years of half-arsed searches, but I got there in the end.
