to think that my car insurance should have gone DOWN???

Sorry, never started a thread before and no idea if this is in the right topic....

But AIBU to think that over the last 12 months, given that I have not made a claim, my no claims bonus has gone up a year (it's ten years as it is!) and my one single speeding conviction has completely expired, that my car insurance shouldn't have gone up by TWO HUNDRED QUID?

My insurance company charged me £500-odd quid last year, which seemed reasonable as I live in a city centre, car is parked on the street and it is an easily stealable soft top (nothing fancy, just a cheapy Mazda). Nothing has changed yet I am now more of a risk to the tune of 200 smackers!

Is this down to these people faking claims and raising everyone's premiums as a result, the fact that they are now steering away from women getting lower premiums (although the law won't actually change till next year) or is it simply down to everything going up generally?

The Meerkat and Annoying Singing Man sites have come up with a few prices at roughly the same as last year but they are with insurance companies that I have never heard of and that review sites say are shite.......

Who do you have insurance with? Are there any obvious ones I'm missing that don't come up on these comparison sites?

Any suggestions gratefully taken on board....

xx

Damages have gone up and then there is the crackpot decision of the ECJ which stops women being charged less for motor insurance because they have fewer accidents and life insurance because they live longer and more for annuities, again because they live longer. It wasn't some male claimant who started that litigation - we are losing out too. It was the Commission itself.

Mine is a soft top and I paid same this year as last (MSM specialist insurance).

Car insurers have made massive losses in the past couple if years, so premiums have gone up across the board. Blame the car insurance fraudsters and the rising cost of materials.

The EU ruling on equality hasn't come into force yet.

Last year my insurance company told me I'd be paying £500. I looked up moneysupermarket and found the very same insurance company quoting me £160.

When I phoned them up to ask why I wasn't entitled to a cheaper quote, they tried to fob me off until I told them I had the quote online in front of me. They asked for the quote reference number, went away and had a think Hmm and then told me I could have insurance for £160. Saving me about £350.

It's a strange business.

I had the extra hassle this year of insuring my lovely new 16 year old Lucida which happens to be an import and it was hell! So many places won't quote so I ended up paying a silly price.... Wish I'd known before Angry

Direct Line doesn't use comparison sites - that's worth a look.

If you dont do many miles (under 6000) then insurethebox is quite good. My insurance went down £30 (not a lot, but better than going up)
