Toto think DS should know the difference between a 'light' coloured wash and 'whites'

Ds (14) was moaning on last night that neither of his school shirts had been washed. It was 10.30pm
I told him to get a grip and he knows perfectly well where the washing machine is and he should have sorted it out at 5.00pm and there would still have been drying time on the line.

So he says 'fine, I'll get a wash on' So far so good

But we come to empty the machine this morning and I find he has put my white knickers in with the pale blue shirts!

HE BLOODY WELL KNOWS BETTER.

OP he found the washing machine, operated it and filled it.

Be grateful, its never happened in my house.

LineRunner · 15/07/2011 12:21

Toto has stopped listening the Lone Clothes Arranger.

LadyThumb · 15/07/2011 12:23

Deary me - white knickers with pale blue shirts! Whatever next???

Ormirian · 15/07/2011 12:23

I think you must operate at a higher level of colour wash awareness in your house! If something is white, largely white or off-white it goes in a whites wash. If something isn't, it goes in a coloured wash.

I feel inadequate now! I've never been much good at this domestic stuff but I am trying .....

BTw my 14 yr old knows where the washing machine is and has, I beleive, switched it on once.

millionsandmillions · 15/07/2011 12:31

Wow. No undies with jeans? No pale things with whites?

What a great way to get super-stressed and make it UTTERLY IMPOSSIBLE for anyone to help you without getting their head torn off.

AfternoonsandCoffeespoons · 15/07/2011 12:36

All those of you who don't wash whites seperately, do you not have grey undies?? Even with light colours they'll still go grey eventually.
I don't actually do this myself but have been reliably informed by Kim and Aggie!

Yama · 15/07/2011 12:38

I don't have any white undies.

I liked the Toto and the lone clothe arranger comments!!!

I must say both DH and I were brought up with this washing arrangement and it continues in our house.

just to add to things
bedding day wash is on Sunday and Wednesday - no exceptions!!!! Grin

LilBB · 15/07/2011 12:43

You wash your bedding twice a week!!!

I do 3 washes. Lights, darks and bright colours. I don't see why you would seperate your whites. I wouldn't even have enough whites to do a load.

TheBigJessie · 15/07/2011 12:46

No grey underwear. My cream underwear remains a tasteful cream colour, my white underwear is white, and my black underwear is black. Even after washing them all together.

Perhaps Kim and Aggie put it all on at 95 degrees?

Bonsoir · 15/07/2011 12:51

I do all the washing in my household to avoid this very problem. Though I do get the DSSs to sort their own dirty laundry.

thefirstMrsDeVere · 15/07/2011 12:52

Why should the OP be grateful her DS does the washing or indeed any man in her household? Hmm

YANBU but I am still only wearing sainsburys basics black or white pants so if a pair turned blue it would be a nice change.

I WILL get round to wearing nice underwear some time soon.

(but they are soooo cheap and go with everything)

MrSpoc · 15/07/2011 12:52

May be next time he should wash his own and not bother doing you a favour.

Does he not have clean shirts because you dont do his washing? Does he do all his own washing???

thefirstMrsDeVere · 15/07/2011 12:52

Forgot to mention

Colour catchers.

Buy them in bulk. Fabulous.

thefirstMrsDeVere · 15/07/2011 12:53

Why shouldnt he do his own washing?

My DS1 did his own washing at that age. He survived.

Nagini · 15/07/2011 12:55

His own washing yes.

His mum's pants? Hmm

katz · 15/07/2011 12:57

like libb we have a lights, brights and dark. Bedding often goes on it own simply because a king sized duvet, bottom sheet and pillow cases fill the machine. Ditto for my girls beds 2 single duvets, bottom sheets and pillow cases.

thefirstMrsDeVere · 15/07/2011 12:57

I think its fairly unlikey that he meant to wash his mum's pants.

More likely he humped about throwing odd bits of vaguely shirt looking stuff into the washing machine and switched it on.

MrSpoc · 15/07/2011 12:57

Nothing wrong with doing his own washing. I did my own at his age but she is winging because he put her nickers in.

Next time he should do you no favours and just wash his own.

What I would like to know is why does he not have enough clean school uniforms. Is it because he is left to do ALL his washing?

millionsandmillions · 15/07/2011 12:58

"I do all the washing in my household to avoid this very problem."

thefirstMrsDeVere · 15/07/2011 12:59

I do red/pink washes, blue/green, orange/yellow etc etc.

I HATE tops with white sleeves and dark bodies. I get all confused about what to do with them.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 15/07/2011 12:59
diddl · 15/07/2011 13:00

We also do lights & darks.

Is there any point in doing whites on their own unless on a hot wash?

Ormirian · 15/07/2011 13:01

"I HATE tops with white sleeves and dark bodies. I get all confused about what to do with them"

Gaahhh! me too. Dreadful half-arse things. DS2 has one with white sleeves and a navy body - I err on the side of caution and it goes in the dark wash.
