Googling for memorial poetry/readings for my dad. All the top links take you to this revolting semiliterate drivel, worse than what you get in shop bought greetings cards. Not fair. I want better stuff.
Everything is not fair. It's my dad's funeral tomorrow. Sorry. Ranting.

Oh love, I'm so sorry Sad.

You are right- it's mostly garbage. I will try and search. Could you write something yourself?

SpringchickenGoldBrass · 15/07/2011 01:36

Thanks BOF, it's not that I need a reading (I said I wouldn't read anything as there is no way at all that I could get through it with any dignity), I just fancied reading some decent stuff about death and goodbyes and loving your dad and missing him. I know such stuff exists but I can't fine it. everything so fucking trite and my dad is gone and it's all horrible

I'm so sorry. It's hard to find the right words. You want something that conveys your feelings.

It must exist. The whole range of human emotions is out there. I wish I could help

I Imagine My Father?s Death
BY BRYAN D. DIETRICH
I imagine my father?s death. It is bigger
than a breadbox. It is bigger than a Ford
Escort, than a Zeppelin, black and vast
and slow moving, oozing over an Oklahoma
arena. It is bigger than any arena, than
Oklahoma. My father?s death is bigger
than a planet, bigger than the gravity
wells worlds make, that stars stir up after
implosion. It is bigger than all the stars.
It takes up all space, all dimension, all
that is or ever was. It hates everything
it isn?t. It makes new space, new matter
from all it is. My father?s death takes on
form and void and says, ?Let there be light.?
And there is light. It says, ?Let there be
worlds.? And there are worlds. It says,
?Let there be a garden and a man in it.?
And there is a man. The man is my father.
He looks around, marveling at this thing
his death has made, then sets out to find
someone, anyone, with whom to share it.

Ah, fuck, I'm sorry, I got the wrong end of the stick.

Tchootnika · 15/07/2011 01:41

John Donne: No Man is an Island
Dylan Thomas: Go not quietly into that dark night

Don't know what else to say, apart from sorry and wishing you well, but both these poems are very beautiful.

Sorry for your loss.A poem by Dylan Thomas may help. It's called ' And Death Shall Have No Dominion'Try Googling it, read it, absorb it and see if any of it gives either you or your loved ones comfort. Mx.
