to hate when people say "I don't do it when I have the kids with me..."

when talking about drink driving / speeding in their cars. Just because the driver doesn't have their own children in the car doesn't make it right, what about the people in the street / other cars who may get hurt in an accident?

I have heard several people say this over the past few weeks and it drives me crazy!

MsChandlerBong I thought that too WRT 'driving fast on a clear open road'..How the hell does that poster know what is around the corner? I couldn't care less if speeders/drink drivers kill themselves, it is the danger that they will kill another person that really boils my piss.

DH's car got hit by a drunk driver last year - she was nearly 4x over the limit. She'd been on a work night out in town and driven back to our village. To be that much over the limit isn't a case of having one too many. Its the equivilent of drinking about 8 pints. She knew what she was doing and I am so angry that someone would do that. I'm also angry thinking its likely her work colleagues knew what she was doing and did nothing - I would rugby tackle someone to the floor to get their keys in that situation.

I was watching cops with cameras last night and there was a woman on there who caused her accident by being on a mobile. Nice, 60 year old, middle class looking woman - not some boy racer lout. She had a head on collission with a young girl who the police thought was going to die. She lived but had a broken back. Its disgusting that people will put others' lives at risk.

I suppose they think they' ll be ok and that it won't happen to them, etc.

Totally agree. It's not only that they are risking other people, they are putting their children at risk - of losing a parent!

Easy for me to be evangelical about but I never drink and drive. Because I have no car and don't really like alcohol :o

Slightly OT but it also really pees me off when I see families riding bikes and only the DCs are wearing helmets. It's like "hey, you need to protect yourself, but if I get hit by a car and killed/injured, well, never mind" WTF!

Mobile phone use in cars really gets to me as well. Really wish they'd banned hands free kits in cars from the start too, as it's well understood that it's the concentration required rather than actually holding the phone with your hand Hmm

I have never heard anyone say that. Your friends and acquaintancesd sound a bit shit Grin

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 15/07/2011 10:26

totally agree about helmets on bikes too - yes protect your children but what about your own head?!
