IAprobablyBU, but here's the precis (I'll skip the hours I've wasted on line to various phone companies sorting this out).

We were with Virgin at our old place. We bought a house, so we tried to move to Sky. Signed up all the contracts, but wanted to keep our home number. Sky said no problem. Actually becomes a big problem. After hours on ph to Sky and to Virgin, we finally discover Virgin is refusing to transfer the number. They say it's Sky's fault, Sky says it's Virgin's. Whatever, I have no idea who is at fault.

By this point, I give up, and cancel Sky, so we'll stick with Virgin and keep the number. I have hospital treatment ongoing, and didn't fancy trying to change the home number as it's the one my consultant uses.

Should all be fine right? We move house. Virgin come to install - all fine. Except Virgin has NOW decided can't give me the old number. At first they said I could have the number in 7 days, but then some arse decided I couldn't have it at all. Spent hours on the phone to Virgin yesterday. I was so angry, I was nearly in tears. I was then assured it was all fine, only to ring to check up on progress and find out the number isn't even allocated to our account and there's a note on the account saying we can't have it!

I hate them, I hate them, I hate them!!!!

OK, I feel better. On the bright side, I'm still in the cancellation period Smile.

Update!!!

Virgin called me to tell me they'd fix it but not to worry, I didn't need to be home. 2 hours after it was supposed to be fixed, a confused looking Virgin chap knocked on the door and asked me what the job was I wanted doing as his work order didn't specify it. He didn't even have the details of the number I wanted...

He did manage to fix it and connected the phone to the right number. So, finally, I have my old number back after 2 weeks of no phone and the wrong number. Weirdly, there are already voicemail messages on the line.

First message, left a week ago on what should have been the new number, "oh hi, this is Virgin calling to confirm your phone has been installed correctly". Angry

Last week my daughter found her husband dead.
Earlier today she was ringing various companies to change account names.
All the Utilities, Banks and Sky were fantastic. They were helpful and tactful and did everything they could to help.
Then there was Virgin Media.
Firstly the Indian Call Centre. Lack of knowledge of English made communication awful. She had to repeat the situation several times.
Then she was told she could not just change names, she had to have a new contract.
This means that, if she has to cancel within 12 months, say for financial reasons, there is a financial penalty.
How's that for money grabbing?
This Company is truly appalling

I have always found virgin media service brilliant. We were with NTl who truely were awful, but since they changed to virgin we have had no problems. The tv box went down at 10 at night, there was a new one on the door step with an engineer at 8 the next morning. They always call back a week later to make sure everything is ok when we have had a problem.
DH reported that the lock on the street box over the road was broken last night (worried that some of the local kids would get into to it and pull out the cables and someone was on the phone this morning aknowledging his email and finding out exactly where it was to sort it out.
