to be a great aunt!

Just had the news that my young niece is expecting Grin
But it's all hush hush for now, so don't tell anyone!

My brother is delighted to be a grandad but I have mixed feelings about being a great aunt - mainly because my own great aunt was very very very old, looked scary (to me) and smelt. Blush

I am so very pleased for her though! I did say YOUNG niece didn't I? As in, I really will be a YOUNG great aunt!

Wow there are some young aunts and uncles out there!
Aw she is thrilled although I don't officially know yet. Only 2 months gone. She'll make a great mum although I can't see her in the birthing room without her hair extensions/false nails/full make-up Grin

Oh yes, things are going to change drastically for her now. Mwah hah hah!

Great Aunt Rhubarb sounds fantastic. Tell you what, just get rid of your real name, and insist you're called Great Aunt Rhubarb - it's name that gives you licence to be totally eccentric Grin

laineylou · 14/07/2011 17:15

OK -re 84 Charing Cross Rd...my aunt is mentioned (v briefly) in it. Will that do?

HPonEverything · 14/07/2011 17:36

YANBU - I'm going to become a great aunt one month before I become a mum. I'll be 34.

I'm pretty mortified (along with happy that my 'niece' is expecting and will do it all before me Grin of course). It's mental to think that my own child will probably have a half-niece (or whatever the relationship is) that is older than it!

BulletWithAName · 14/07/2011 17:53

My 23 year old friend is a great-auntie!

Quenelle · 15/07/2011 13:40

Oh it's 84 Charing Cross Road! No wonder I couldn't find it when I googled. Thanks laineylou

Sorry for the hijack Auntie Rhubarb (great name BTW Grin)

diddl · 15/07/2011 13:47

(Loved the 84 Charing Cross Rd film, btw)

TheRhubarb · 15/07/2011 13:55

Never heard of the book or film. Will I like it? I like comedies, thrillers and horror. No slush.

Auntie Rhubarb indeed! Grin

I am in fact a great, great Aunt. I am 42. DH's eldest sister is a great grandma.

Shock

Do you have a blue rinse yet? Grin

Auntie Rhubarb 84 CCR is a sort of diary told through letters between a woman in New York and a booksellers in London. It's not slushy, just sort of charming. It was made into a film starring Anne Bancroft but I haven't seen it.

I thought I had posted on a thread about feel good books in Adult Fiction, glad to see it wasn't wasted anyway Smile

No blue rinse yet, but I am already practicing growing old disgracefully Grin Which reminds me - it is wine o'clock!
