A woman looking up as a heavy stream of blood falls down from the ceiling and dribbles all over her face and her neck. Cue loud screaming.

Followed by a bride getting shot in the chest, blood spurting as she falls to the ground on tv...

At 3.30 or so in the afternoon?

Correct me if i'm wrong, but, is there not meant to be a 9pm watershed in place.....?

I don't think early afternoon when children are coming home from school is the right time to air that sort of thing?

And i'm so shocked and so cross, i'm thinking of writing to ITV?

Not that they would take any notice.... Angry

Well why are you watching a programme like that when your child is around anyway?

Please read the initial post properly before responding!

I wasn't intentionally watching it.
I've never seen the programme and saw it completely by chance.

ChristinedePizan · 13/07/2011 17:22

Well then it's a bit silly of you to watch it when you don't know what's going to happen isn't it?

It's called Midsomer Murders - the clue is in the title

BoobiesGalore · 13/07/2011 17:23

Yeah, i did not know what the programme was.

Hence, i did not know the title.

Or that people got killed in it.

Which bit are you finding difficult to comprehend? Confused

OP posts:
Hulababy · 13/07/2011 17:25

Sounds like a CSI programme. I am sure they are shown during the day sometimes - and no, definitely not suitable for pre watershed.

ChristinedePizan · 13/07/2011 17:26

I'm finding it difficult to comprehend that you sat down and just watched something on a channel which is not aimed at children and that within five minutes of watching would have been entirely clear was a murder/investigation programme and are now blaming that on the broadcaster rather than yourself.

FGS take some responsibility :o

ChristinedePizan · 13/07/2011 17:27

If it was ITV1 it was Midsomer Murders, not CSI

Hulababy · 13/07/2011 17:27

BG - it was Midsomer Murders today

dickiedavisthunderthighs · 13/07/2011 17:29

Most daytime telly isn't going to be child-friendly for a myriad of reasons (I echo the post about Jeremy Kyle). Surely it's not too much to expect a bit of common sense, i.e. if there is a child in the room then don't just turn the telly on and watch something you know nothing about.

Why didn't you turn over/off as soon as the ceiling/blood incident happened? I am finding it hard to take this I AM VERY OUTRAGED tone when frankly you should have engaged brain first.
HTH

Hulababy · 13/07/2011 17:30

CSI is shown on Channel 5 in the middle of the day. Def unsuitable viewing for an afternoon.

BoobiesGalore · 13/07/2011 17:30

It doesn't need to be aimed at children, but if its before 9 the content should be suitable for children.

The point of the debate was whether it was suitable material for that time given its a watershed channel.

Not whether it is or isn't my fault.

Once again, read the original post properly before you comment!

BabyDubsEverywhere · 13/07/2011 17:31

My tv only shows two channel in the day...playhouse sodding disney of ceebee-effing-beebies....not matter how hard i try i cant get another channel in the day Grin bloody hobbits Grin

southeasthamster · 13/07/2011 17:34

most people at home are pensioners though, they love a murder.

people can comment how they like op

fatlazymummy · 13/07/2011 17:37

Why should everything on TV before 9 pm be suitable for children? That would be incredibly boring, wouldn't it? Especially as people disagree on what is suitable for children in the 1st place.
Just supervise what your children watch. Read what the programme is before you switch it on.

thursday · 13/07/2011 17:38

doesn't say in the initial post that you watched it unintentionally, just that you were unimpressed with the content.

i agree it's not suitable for children generally but neither is most pre watershed tv tbh. This Morning, JK, the news, Loose Women, Eastenders etc. i wouldn't bother complaining or you'd be all there all day. i love midsomer murders but i can't watch in now the sprogs are bigger :(

StealthPolarBear · 13/07/2011 17:40

I kinda thought that was the point of the watershed!
I'm not saying everything should be aimed at children btw

ChristinedePizan · 13/07/2011 17:41

I can't believe that MM showed anything that graphic but it has surprised me at times. Incidentally I googled to see what the watershed actually considered adult content (Adult content is usually defined as images or language depicting or referring to explicit sexual intercourse, graphic violence, or drug use and the use of strong language if you're interested) and in the Ofcom report it said this: In addition, the annual survey consistently shows that the majority of the public believe the responsibility for children's viewing lies with the parents (65%)

So there you are, 65% of the UK population thinks YABU :o

TheMagnificentBathykolpian · 13/07/2011 17:43

It was, Stealth, back when the watershed actually meant something. Nowadays, as far as I can see, it's worse than useless. Which is why it's best we police it ourselves in our own homes, rather than fool ourselves that there's anything like 'safe' tv anymore. It's all a competition to see who can shock the most, be the most risque...

I feel a rant coming on.

HidingInTheUndergrowth · 13/07/2011 17:43

If you are that worried about what's on tv the you could just not have one. Problem solved.

Happyfinnish · 13/07/2011 17:44

StealthPolarBear - I was just being jokey.

BertieBotts · 13/07/2011 17:44

House is shown on Channel 5 in the middle of the day as well - it's what they had in the CSI slot before that aired. The DVDs are 15s and 18s.

Then again, some of the friends DVDs are 15s and they're usually on the breakfast slot.

MsTeak · 13/07/2011 17:44

So you are asking AIBU when you are already convinced you are not BU? Hmm

MollieO · 13/07/2011 17:52

The Watershed is an Ofcom thing. MM is on from 8pm usually so I assume doesn't count as a watershed programme. Weirdly I do expect pre-9pm programmes to be suitable for dcs and thought that even before I had any of my own.

MissyBrookes · 13/07/2011 17:56

It really grates me when people whinge about whats on TV, like the whole bloody Eastenders thing.

DONT WATCH IT! CHANGE THE CHANNEL! Problem solved!!

Or, maybe, instead of leaving children in front of the notorious and violent TV while you scrach your arse in the kitchen you could take them to the park?

southmum · 13/07/2011 18:09

yabu

Not everyone has kids. Turn it over, ishoo solved

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 13/07/2011 18:11

I won't hear a word said against, 'Midsomer Murders'... best thing on tv right now. 'Jonathan Creek' is the best programme of all time though, such gentle murders...
