I live in a house in a courtyard setting, so lots of houses backing on to each other with shared communal areas. Most own, but a few renters, and two of these are absoloutely awful...anti-social rule breakers who have no care for anyone else.
One house, every single time there is a hint of sunshine, they open all doors and windows and pump out terrible music at the volume of your average night-club. This means that no-one else can enjoy sitting outside, or even being in their own homes with a window open, such is the volume of this music, its impossible to get away from. I have my own radio on now louder than I would like just to try and drown it out, the combination is giving me a headache.
I politely asked them previously to turn it down when they woke my sleeping baby up (for like the 10th time) and was told that they "can do what they fucking like its a free country" followed by some swearing and threats to "sort me out". Charming.
So WIBU to stand under their window and scream "shut up cunt-bags" on the basis that I can also do what I like if its a free country?

pour, even.

MsTeak · 15/07/2011 11:04

Bit early for a drink, wouldn't you say? Unless you're referring to national stereotypes.
YEs I do get a bit "chippy and arsey" when selfish twats ruin my summer with their god-awful music. I have a chronic illness and often have to lie down for a bit in the afternoon, however they ruin that. Tends to make one a bit "chippy". Hmm
You sound lovely, lachesis, perhaps you are related to my neighbours?

It's always cocktail hour somewhere in the world! You should purchase some ear plugs, although it is probably cheaper to just be insulting here and get your knickers in a twist.

MsTeak · 15/07/2011 11:23

Yes it is cheaper, and its AIBU, which is for ranting and raving and quite specifically about getting your knickers in a twist. Noisy fucker neighbours are quite obviously BU, and so is anyone who thinks that they aren't anti-social twat-bags.
If you're the kind of person who either acts like that or supports someone in acting like that, though, theres no hope for you is there?

YADNBU its about mutual respect and learning to enjoy yourself with out having a negative impact on others. Which they clearly are!

I suggest you have a family fun day next Sunday very early and near there house as screaming children and hangovers don't mix Grin (assuming they get twated on a Saturday)

SomethingProfound · 15/07/2011 13:11

their not there Blush

dramafluff · 15/07/2011 13:18

No you are not unreasonable - had the same, got them shifted. Ring the police EVERY time and also the council. Find out who your PCSO is and constantly harrass them. Do not just speak to environmental health though - also speak to the housing department - after a year I discovered these 2 do not speak with each other - the housing department waded in straight away. Try and find out who the landlords are (if applicable) and compain direct. keep a noise diary - very important. The important thing that actually works is constact, CONSTANT, complaining to the various bodies. Just remember YOU are not the one being unreasonable - it is irritating that you have to become a potential pain in others' eyes before anything that happens, but too bad!

MOSP · 15/07/2011 13:19

Squirt them with a hosepipe.

dramafluff · 15/07/2011 13:21

Sorry - I sound like a psycho - I ought to clarify - this was multi-occupancy 'half way house' for 'poor' troubled teenagers with nowhere else to go - constant noise, constant vehicles pulling up, revving and pulling off, music, swearing, chucking stuff out of windows..... a real bunch of little charmers.

encyclogirl · 15/07/2011 13:34

YANBU, and you didn't get chippy until someone was 'baffled' that you posted here.

I'm in Ireland too MsTeak, my sis had a similiar problem and eventually she threatened to sue her neighbours landlord. A total bluff really, but she said it in desperation.

It worked though.

Good luck.

LaContessa · 28/09/2011 07:28

I don't know if this is all too late, but I a sure Irish law is not so different to english law when it comes to landlords, and noise polluters, being a landlord myself, they ahve an obligation to ensure that their tenants are not a nuisancem, and if they are dismissive of your issues then you can take them to court. Long windeda and all that, I agree, but keep a record, find out who you can speak to , get the evidence and confront the landlord with the problem. There should be an equivalent to the land registry in Ireland and for a small nominal fee, you should be able to obtain the name of the owner of the property via them just by putting int eh address, and all online. Good luck with your fight, I hope you are successfull
