My friend popped round today for tea and chat. I know she has brought a new house of 1.4Million, so i knew she had money, but never really thought about it.
Today Im sitting there telling her im considering auctioning my DD1s watercolours off to pay for her specialist bike (she has Autism), she is a wonderful artist and very talented but her bike is £250. Friends DD was playing with her sunglasses, which she takes off her and tells her she cant play with them as she treated herself and they were £200!!
Money has never been something Im very bothered about and quite happy with my little two bed terrance house, doing my shopping at aldi and buying clothes in second hand shop Blush and just very Envy that what im trying to get together for DD1s bike is what she spends on sunglasses :(

How is your dh now lisad? Hopefully he is recovering well.
Your dd's pics are fabulous, I especially love the one with the bird.
You should enter it into a competition!

Sewmuchtodo · 12/07/2011 21:24

Happybubblbrain that is a fab idea and lets the op keep her lovely pictures.

Have you thought about having a fundraiser? A teddy bears picnic or perhaps a sponsored trike/(1 mile somewhere flat) and all to help another little girl join in! x

CrapolaDeVille · 12/07/2011 21:24

Oh my God the paintings are amazing... Ever thought of contacting a wallpaper design house, they would make lovely boarders? Or printing? There's loads of online shops that take a large cut but would sell them for you, like Notonthehighstreet.com

CrapolaDeVille · 12/07/2011 21:27

Right I've an idea!! Are you on twitter? Do you have a site for these paintings? Why not do a charity auction on twitter? Or get a Mummy blogger to feature your dd's paintings?

Failing that I have a friend who designs for gap....lovely t shirts.

lisad123 · 12/07/2011 21:44

I do have twitter, but havent got to grips with it yet Blush. I have a blog about living with 2 girls with autism and another about DH cancer battle but is mummy blogger different?

Wow GAP tshirts, she would be so excited.
I really wouldnt know where to start but for now, I will do photos and pop them on a picturetail type thingy, until someone who has more brain cells left than me (its not hard!!) can talk me though what to do.

CrapolaDeVille · 12/07/2011 21:49

I know you're busy but update your blog with her pictures....

muminthecity · 12/07/2011 22:27

Maybe she is posting on another forum right now, "AIBU to be very jealous of my friend? She has the most amazingly talented children, and a drop dead gorgeous DH." Grin

It's crap having no money, I know, I don't have any either, but as others have said there is always someone better/worse off than you. Good luck with the money making, I hope you manage to get enough together for your DD's bike. Smile

642 · 12/07/2011 22:33

What an amazing person you are. What alot you have on your plate.

The pictures are so beautiful and so is your family. Good luck with everything xxx

ShirlOckholmes · 12/07/2011 22:50

If the sunglasses are have prescription photochromic lenses which could be possible if your friend has bad eyesight then £200 is not too bad.

lisad123 · 12/07/2011 22:59

nope def a pair of designer shades, she doesnt wear glasses.

Have uploaded pictures to here sorry about extra pics, still trying to get to grips with wordpress

Haven't you got anything else you can sell or cut back on? Does it have to be the very thing that your daughter is talented at, that she has to lose to gain a bike?

CharlieCoCo · 12/07/2011 23:07

omg that bird one is beautiful, she is so talented. i agree, keep the original (could be worst something in the future;-)) and make cards from the designs so u can sell loads. you have a truely talented daughter and that bike will be so rewarding knowing it came from such pretty pictures.
its hard when we know people who have more than us, but at the same time, if she has the money, she is allowed to spend it. if she wants to spend £200 on sunnies and can afford it, then thats her perogative, but i think her saying it is a bit insensitive and if she really has money would of been nice if she offered to buy a pic.

lisad123 · 12/07/2011 23:11

I gave up work when they told us DD2 also had autism. DD2 goes to a special nursery school for children with Autism but sadly we have to pay for that, DD1 goes to horse riding therapy to help with her depression and pretty much everything I can cut back on is. I buy my clothes in second hand shops, havent had a haircut or colour in a year Blush, i plan all our meals and shop at Aldi. We dont smoke, we dont drink and I cant remember the last time me and DH had a night out ( well i do but it was so long ago i hate to admit it).
Im relucant to stop horse therapy or DD2 special school as they really make a huge difference.
The thing I guess is, yes shes very good but she paints loads. There are certain ones I would hate to sell, and wont but I am still thinking of other ways to get her pennies together.

how do you get prints done? (stupid icon here)

OP posts:
Dreya · 12/07/2011 23:30

Wow. I love the bird painting. My DH is a photographer and shows his work on Redbubble. People have started buying his photographs from the site now. Maybe you could show your DD's paintings there? You have a beautiful family Lisa. Smile

keepingupwiththejoneses · 13/07/2011 01:16

Lisa have you thought of going to a charity for the bike. Cerebra, lifeline for kids are just two that fund equipment like bikes.

lisad123 · 13/07/2011 08:06

I have but tbh the bike is a luxurity (sp?) not a neccessarty (sp?) so wouldnt feel right asking for it

OP posts:
atosilis · 13/07/2011 08:53

Please don't sell the bird picture, it's lovely. I'd definitely look into making prints and cards - I'd buy cards with that picture!

lisad123 · 13/07/2011 09:01

which one? humming bird or group of birds?

OP posts:
nickschick · 13/07/2011 09:03

Lisad - I dont know if you already know this but the family fund help with things like this - its not a luxury for a child with autism to have a bike, the co-ordination and concentration it takes to ride one,the mind sense to stay 'safe' and steer etc and the freedom of her being in control, her pedalling herself forward and the care of the bike the cleaning etc are all valuable lessons for her to live as 'normally' as she can in a world thats already so difficult for her.

nickschick · 13/07/2011 09:05

And she might live in a house worth over a million but chances are its on a mortgage etc and the repayments are huuuuuuuuuge.

My nan says money talks but class and wealth whisper Grin.

PS Id bid for your Dh Wink.

sausagesandmarmelade · 13/07/2011 09:06

I don't think you should be jeolous...

Be glad for her....and be glad for yourself that you have a roof over your head, food on your table and warmth.

You have a lot more than a lot of other people across the world.
