Dh says he is 4 nearly 5 and I should leave him be but he is really still quite young and especially when we are not in our own town that I want to hold onto him and know where he is.

Aibu? Or over cautious?

YANBU, I am quite strict with handholding with under threes so it seems to come naturally when they are older.
I used to have 'safe' areas like when we walk through the park they could let go or run ahead, or they could look at the childrens books in the bookshop whilst I looked elsewhere.

My dgs is 4.10 and always holds a hand when we are out-I love it and it seems very natural.Fwiw he holds his dad's hand if they are together. He is very bright and loves the usual dinosaurs, space, cars etc but likes to watch Cbeebies,Postman Pat,Fireman Sam.he likes Toy Story[1 and 2] and Cars but not anything graphic or violent at all.

oh I love holding dss little hand - he is 8 and still automatically holds my hand whenever we are out.
DS1 is 11 now and tries to pretend he doesn't know me when we are out so I am clinging to making the most having ds2's hand to hold.

My DD2 (8) still likes holding my hand and I like holding hers. We also have a number of games we play when holding hands eg I squeeze her hand in a certain pattern and she has to repeat it back which also helps. We hold hands because we both like it though so it's not a battle

My 11yo will sometimes take my hand too which I love

I hold my mom's hand when we cross a busy road but that's mainly because she's wuite eldery and a bit nervous of busy roads

I'm going to get flamed aren't it?

DD is 6 and has taken to hand holding again think its a comfort thing because im PG she just wants reassurance that she's still mummys girl :) wee sweetheart she is.

my nephew is 4 and a half and runs to hold my hand Grin he's a wee star, bloody hyper never listens runs around like a mad wee puppy but when it comes to me he's right in for my hand :) some kids do it happily past the 'baby age' and others just dont get into it.

think i'd be happy to let them decide when to stop.
