To want dh to stop making poncey French bread that makes our kitchen look shitty?

Dh loves cooking and has recently got into making his own bread, partly as a cost-cutting move.

All well and good, but he has recently discovered a French-type loaf, I can't be arsed to get up and find out its name, and it is a total PITA.

Firstly, it is round with a big hole in the middle and therefore totally useless for sandwiches- which is all I use bread for, and not that great for toast either.

Secondly, he has to faff around with the dough, letting it rest or some such shit, and sort of part bake it - I don't really know what he's doing but suffice to say, he's becoming a little obsessed.

Thirdly, and this is the worst part IMO, is the mess it makes. You are supposed to put flour on the top after it is bakes, so he shakes it on with gay abandon all over the hob - then leaves the residue there to burn on Angry. He sems to have doughy/floury hands all the time when in the kitchen and merrily splats these all over our glossy black cupboard doors as much as he can - making the kitchen look like a shit-hole. When you cut the bread, the flour shakes off onto the floor, causing yet more mess.

Ok, he does all the cooking and kitchen cleaning (SAHD, I have f/t job that involves evening/weekend work and ds2 still bf at night) but still - I ashouldn't have to put up with this, should I?

Thank you - yes, it's not just does he clean up? but when does he clean up? Hours after is the answer.

Yes, he does pasta, too. Hours of faffing that messes up the dining table this time, as well as the kitchen. Tries to involve the dc but ds1 (4) gets bored after 5 minutes (on account of the fact that it is boring and dh gets highly irratated when ds 2 (2) wants a turn on the pasta machine, the handle of which falls off every time it is touched.

lecce - do you have issues about mess and cleanliness generally? I am sensing this is a tip of the iceberg thing here...

lecce · 09/07/2011 21:46

Well, I like things messy that I want messy; and I want things tidy that I want tidy Grin

I'm being a cow, he's lovely and a great cook - bit messy though.

does it really matter if it's hours after??

seriously, if a man had posted this the responses would have been far less reserved i can tell you!

olibeansmummy · 09/07/2011 21:52

Yabu if he cleans the mess up himself!

TheThrill · 09/07/2011 22:04

I'm laughing at the non-intentional pun PITA Smile

Woollybaalamb · 09/07/2011 22:08

OP in my opinion YANBU. You just don't need the extra faffing and mess and general unnecessariness!

BupcakesandCunting · 09/07/2011 22:28

YANBU and any court in this land would clear you of his murder if it ever came to that.
