Because for the last 6 months i have not been able to watch a single thing online, (iplayer, 4od etc etc) as whenever i start it just crashes! so on their advice i took my laptop to a shop and had it totally restored and like new. Low and behold it keeps happening again!

So i ring them tonight to be told this: "there is a network problem in your area, which makes the iplayers not work. this has been an on-going problem in your area for years (well dur?)"

so i say "so i just paid for my PC to be 'fixed' for no reason"

virgin fecking media "well yes, however we are getting the problem sorted"

me: "oh ok, when?"

virgin fecking media "august.....2012"

what the actual fuck? we pay full wack for a service we dont bloody get!!! grr

I think if I ever called a telecomms company to set up a new contract, having read all this, I'd feel obliged to record the conversation. For 'training purposes', of course...

I was followed round a well known electrical store last year by a representative from Virgin Media. He was desperate to get me to sign up. No matter how many times I told him that I live in "x town" which doesn't have cable, nor are there any plans to install cable so there's really no point is there? He was still giving it loads of "ah, but madam if you sign up now...."

ThisisaSignofthetimes · 10/07/2011 07:02

Sounds like they can't give you a fast enough connection for iplayer to work properly and they may be replacing their cables, hence the August 2012 comments. They took over another cable company a few years back, can't remember the name and I think they are replacing a lot of cabling, bit crap to blame it on your PC! We have had probs with them in the past over power surges which knock our connection out, having said that they seem to have sorted and they did refund my broadband charges for two months due to crap service. Was thinking of moving to sky but when we checked what connection speed they could offer us it was only 5mb, which is virtually dial up. We have 20 mb with Virgin and regularly get around 18mb so iplayer etc works well. To be honest I think they are all as bad as each other.

Grin linerunner

1 week we had 3 Open reach engineers out - and that was a battle as you had to phone the call centre to try and arrange them - the first 1 said he suspected he knew what the fault was, but couldnt fix it as he was "not trained" to climb a ladder - I kid you not.

IDrinkFromTheirSkulls · 10/07/2011 15:15

We get the speed we pay for with Virgin Media, we just don't always have the internet. It just randomly goes off and we can't get it back on...until the moment you tell the guy on the phone what the matter is Hmm

I'm with plusnet for phone and broadband, can't fault them. BT are a load of useless theiving gobshites. Never had the misfortune pleasure of dealing with Sky or Virgin-and I plan on keeping it that way.

LilBB · 10/07/2011 17:41

I was with Virgin for 6 years and didn't have a problem until I cancelled because we were moving house and they charged me £180 for the pleasure of being unable to take my services with me.

I'm really surprised that I haven't seen Talk Talk's name trashed here yet. They are dreadful. When my Dad died they kept sending bills in his name to my mum despite being repeatedly asked not to. When we sent them a copy of the death certificate they rang and asked to speak to my Dad and then said they needed the original death certificate. I do hope they've recorded the conversation that followed for posterity because I don't ever remember being that angry before.

Best call from BT was when they started a new 12 month contract when I changed my name (I got married - how dare I??). According to customer services changing my name was a breach of contract. Interestingly they backed down before this could be tested in court.

Plusnet are fantastic. In six years with them I've lost broadband once for a morning and once it was fixed they immediately sent out an email explaining what had gone wrong and what steps they were taking to prevent it happening again.

No problems with Sky yet. Was considering virgin for new business line...but maybe not now!

hellospoon · 10/07/2011 19:08

Oh lordy.. today it has got worse. Tomorrow i am going to loose my temper with them and cancel my contract regardless of the penalty they are shocking

This thread has got me really worried cos I'm just in the middle of switching from Sky to Virgin. Sky have been rubbish in the time I've been with them and I hate that you own the equipment and have to pay them to fix it when it's rubbish anyway. I hope my experience with Virgin is going to be ok. Fingers crossed.

M0naLisa · 10/07/2011 19:15

virgin mobile isnt much better. DH got a contract in january with Virgin media. After having the phone 3 weeks they cut it off, said that the bill was due and they tried to take it.
I said, the bill wasnt due for another a week - 4 weeks into the contract.
So they said no we take one 2 weeks after taking the phone contract out then we take another one 2 weeks later so 2 bills in 4 weeks.
So i said 'i was told my first payment woulfnt come out until a month later and they were saying
'no you wont have been told that'
so i kept saying to them
'listen to the recorded phone calls they do and they will be found wrong'
they kept saying that
'i was the wrong one'

I spoke to a supervisor who was very very rude. I asked when the 28 day ran out, as i was sure we had a few days left from starting the contract and was told 'oh that ran out yesterday'

Bastards.

I would rather be without the internet and all the extra tv channels than to have anything to do with Virgin Media. We had cable TV as soon as it was available in this area, so around 14 years. Over the course of time, there had been several 'take overs', which had all gone fairly smoothly. Within that time, we had a couple of issues, but always dealt with quickly and to our satisfaction. Then Virgin Media took over. And the trouble started. First, there was the debacle over Sky 1 and other channels. If customers had a 'partial' package, when they lost Sky 1 it was replaced with channels from one of the other packages. We had the whole package and therefore got nothing by way of compensation, not even a couple of £ discount. We moved our TV to Sky and have never looked back. Then later in the same year, Virgin stuck us with a bill for around £500 for one month and cut the phone off before they even sent us the bill! (Our usual bill was around £25.00 per month) when we queried it and asked for copies of bill ( we couldn't get them ourselves as no phone = no internet) and when we saw them it showed that we were being charged for being on the phone for pretty much 24 hours a day and at some points, it looked as though we were on several calls at the same time! We pointed this out, it was clearly an error, presumably to do with their equipment, but they would not do anything about it. Then, when we moved phone services and broadband back to BT, Virgin charged us another £100 for ' breach of contract'. Unfortunately, we had to pay as DH is employed in financil services and his contract does not allow him to have any bad debts recorded against him.

So do I think yabu? no, only that I think you could have found a more insulting word for them than knobs!

MiserableLes · 10/07/2011 21:28

Dont you mean an erection of knobs
