To feed my baby food from a jar?

I fed dd1 some from a jar but mainly home cooked, ds1 all home cooked but now ds2 is 6 months I've tried him on hipp organic jars and he loves them! I was always a bit of a snob when it came to jars as I assumed they were full of additives and crap but they seem to be fine

Mine was part home-pureed, part jars. Never did him any harm. Anyway I needed some jar foods so I could use the empty jars for home-pureed!

valiumredhead · 07/07/2011 17:35

And if we said no, what would you do? Grin Feed him whatever you like!

DarlingDuck · 07/07/2011 17:41

I would run screaming to the hills!!!

Grin

I fed ds a mixture of both - he lived! Wink

usualsuspect · 07/07/2011 17:44

YANBU I used both

but I'm sure theres lots will say they cooked everything from scratch with home grown organic veg

grovel · 07/07/2011 17:45

Jar food can be a bit bland. Add plenty of salt and you're fine.

I think that the concensus is that home-cooked is nutritionally better (and cheaper)... same as it is for adults. That said the occasional jar won't hurt :-)

LaWeasel · 07/07/2011 17:48

grovel babies are not supposed to have salt, even relatively small amounts can make them seriously ill.

Please don't add salt to any baby food!

BulletWithAName · 07/07/2011 17:49

My children ate them and lived to tell the tale. I'm sure your DD wil be fine Smile

LaWeasel · 07/07/2011 17:49

OP - jars are fine btw.

KnitterNotTwitter · 07/07/2011 17:49

govel I hope that is a joke.... beause it's a shit one if it is

BulletWithAName · 07/07/2011 17:49

I have a feeling grovel meant that tongue-in-cheek...

LaWeasel · 07/07/2011 17:50

It's a bit of a crap joke though isn't it?

What if someone who really didn't know read that?

grovel · 07/07/2011 17:50

I was being flippant. Sorry for any offence caused.

Grin grovel

My 7mo loves the hipp jars, there's nothing wrong with them

LaWeasel · 07/07/2011 17:51

Oh!! That is a great idea.

I have been pondering something to do with the whomping willow, but that's better!

BulletWithAName · 07/07/2011 17:52

Well I thought it was funny Grin

KnitterNotTwitter · 07/07/2011 17:53

grovel... phew

With DS he went absolutely bonkers for the HIPP pear mush for about a week. Then when I bought a load on 3 for 2 decided he didn't like it after all...

Gave up on mush and went BLW after that - much easier IMO...

KnitterNotTwitter · 07/07/2011 17:55

FWIW someone was trying to explain to me the other day that the food standards for baby food are actually higher than for organic food so all baby food is effectively organic even if it isn't certified a such... Anyone know if that is right or an urban myth...

worraliberty · 07/07/2011 17:56

I burst out laughing Grin

Rubitue · 07/07/2011 17:57

Seriously LaWeasel? So we shouldn't joke about anything that somebody somewhere might not know in case they do it?

If you have a baby you are responsible for finding out what it should and shouldn't be fed, besides which anyone who has ever been inside a maternity unit / doctors surgery / whatever can't have failed to notice info about babies and salt, unless they are plain thick and there is no legislating for stupidity.

skybluepearl · 07/07/2011 18:04

it's up to you. i tend to just do baby led weaning and feed the kids what we eat. it's cheaper and less bland.

LaWeasleyAintWeaselyAnymore · 07/07/2011 18:05

I just think it's different online, sometimes you have to be a bit careful - actually not everyone does take in all the details of all the advice that is out there, and with forums you can't read tone, especially a newbie who doesn't know who people are etc, won't know who is joking and who isn't.

So I think would be a bit daft to leave a post like that uncorrected, but it doesn't matter who does it.

I'm not having a go at grovel!
