Following the 'killing of bees' thread, ^how^ do I get rid?

I had a pile of bricks outside my house for years that I tried to get DP to dispose of and eventually gave up (like you do) and sold them on ebay for the pribcely sum of 15p.

So, a nice man comes to pick them up yesterday evening, i help him load his car, he realises he's going to do 2 trips so I tell him to help himslef as I have to put DC's to bed. I hear him come back, rumble the bricks for 5 mins, then he leaves. A phone call 10 mins later from him tells me he found a bees nest in there, so left! I am thoroughly embaressed for one and have sent an apologetic email to the ebayer.

But after reading the thread about someones colleague killing the nest in her garden and seeling the slating she got could you please advise me what to do? I can't see a nest as such, I think they're in the holes in the bricks. If I move the bricks around, I can hear a lot of buzzing! Lots of bees come out, so I run away. Oh, and they are large red-tailed bumble bees (I looked it up in a book!).
I have to weigh up the bees rights, and my ebayers. Thank you.

How is this an AIBU question?

Paschaelina · 06/07/2011 12:01

My council pest-control dept can assess and if it really is bees, they have numbers for bee-keepers who will take them away safely.

Or if its not affecting anyone, you could just leave them there for the summer, it will be gone by september probably.

Sorry, first post. Not sure where to go. The other killing bees thread was on here.

Do not kill bees, please! They are vital to our ecology and to our economy. Google around to find a local beekeeper, and ask him to come and take them away. If he doesn't want them, he may be able to tell you the best thing to do about them.

Thank you Paschaelina a nd Pretty. Think I'll call the council.

On the other thread, someone with a bumblebee nest just left it in peace until the autumn I think. I would do that, & move the bricks then.

well... 'gardening', 'good housekeeping', 'other subjects' or even 'chat'?

Where are the AIBU police then? Grin

I think a few years ago we were given the advice that the bees would leave the nest in our hedge at the end of the year (autumn?) and not use that nest again.
