i was targeted a year ago and read out some story about a poor abused dog which after MUCH pleading by the man i agreed to a monthly donation of £3.

Over the last 3 months i have had a number keep calling me literally about 20 odd times. i haven't answered because i didn't recognise the number. anyway the last time they called i rang the number back to see who it was and as it was the RSPCA, when they called AGAIN today i answered, thinking it was to just say thanks for my continued support.

but no

i had another story about another poor dog and then was told that others who already sponsor rspca have agreed to up their donation to £10 per month and would i like to?

i said no.

another story about another dog, then asked if £5 would be ok?

i said no again.

then, some MORE stories about how terrible dogs have been treated and figures from the last year. then asked if £3 would be ok?

by this time i was getting a bit narked and said politely i already give to the dogs trust which combined with rspca totals £10 per month i cant afford any more. she finally got the message and said goodbye.

i know animals get badly treated every day and my money is needed, but it is also needed by my ds too and these calls i find really uncomfortable because of the sob stories they read out to emotionally blackmail you. i just find it really annoying that i was targeted before and persuaded to pay because i wasn't already, but now targeted again BECAUSE i already pay them, and obviously not enough by their standards.

i am too polite to be firm at the start of the call so i cant help but let them go on and on

AIBU to be annoyed?

A friend of mine just did a sponsored walk for a charity (no name, no pack drill), raised over £500 for them and fell ill with the food that they gave him en route, so he didn't complete the course.

While he's still at home with blisters on his blisters, they ring him up and ask him if he would like to donate regularly.

It was a fairly forceful no.

there was a lot of dogs trust love on this thread.
out of curiousity did they start harrassing too?
the most aggressive street chugger i have ever met was a dogs trust man the other month. i was rather forceful and strong that i would do not sign up in the street but he would not take no for an answer. in the end he only backed off when i asked him if he wanted to see my bank statements

No dog trust love here. Ive told you about my friend sister with learning disabilities that is signed up by dogs trust for x amount every week with her sister (my friend) having to cancel it every weekend or else her sister would have no money for food. It should be illegal!

RSPCA were awful for hassling me and trying to shame me into increasing my monthly amount . "Well Ms Knackered, the amount that you donate is normally the student rate and we normally ask for x amount as a minimum "

"That's all I can afford right now - my husband has left and I have two children "

"Well you ARE on the student rate... "

"Great -well as I'm not a student and am a HCP - I'll just cancel it then "

Twats.

I am fed up with the constant texts too and want to cancel but can’t find out how!!
I pay direct from my mobile bill

I've been sponsoring cats with the Blue Cross for 5 years now,and they are excellent. It's only 3 quid a month, but I've never had phone calls, texts or letters pressuring me to pay more. Apart from the update I receive from 'my pet' telling me they've been chosen by someone, the only communication I have from them is their quarterly newsletter and raffle tickets once a year.

Yanbu. I get regularly hounded by unicef now. I know they do fantastic work but it has really put me off continuing to donate to be honest

sayanythingelse · 06/07/2018 18:19

I wouldn't give them a penny anyway. I've called the RSPCA twice when I've come across abandoned and injured animals. They refused to come out both times.

Their call centre is outsourced to Capita. That speaks volumes.
