... has actually shown that very few late abortions happen in this country (147 in 2010) and that the fact that there were ony 7 abortions carried out for Cleft lip and palate just shows that the constant barrage of posts about how often this kind of termination is carried out have been misguided and incorrect? Though I do understand that some people would think 7 is 7 too many.

story here I did a search and can't see a discussion about this which is a surprise. Maybe I am not searching hard enough?

Happy All I know is that I had a friend - a fellow mum at nursery - who had a complex genetic disorder running in her family. Testing took ages because it was so complex, so at 26 weeks she had to go through the trauma of delivering a dead baby. This was a baby who would not have lived any significant amount of time outside the womb, but that did not make it an easy decision. I'm just glad she already had a healthy DD.

To my mind it's like the death penalty - if one innocent person is executed, if one suffering woman who had no real choice is vilified by this - then it is immoral, wicked and cruel.

I agree, and I can't imagine what some of those women have gone through. Thankfully, I have never lost a baby, and I've never needed an abortion.

Although I wouldn't have done what my sis in law did, I believe that she really did do what she thought what was right, for her, her family and her baby.

Takethisoneforastart, that is one of the most heartbreaking accounts I have ever read. And one of the bravest. My heart goes out to you too.

I don't actually think anti abortionists give a flying fuck for the women involved, and don't care much for the children in question if they are born. Their own self-rightiousness is paramount.

I found out i was pg at 18 weeks and in the middle of a separation/house repossession and living in homeless accommodation. I had a contraception failure. I went to the doctors who told me the baby was a gift from god and had chosen me to be its mother. I was shocked. I had to change to another doctors and see only one of 6 doctors who would refer me. I then had to find a surgeon who would perform it. Then i had to have counselling. By the time this got sorted i was 22 weeks pg. I couldn't go through with it. I do not believe that late terminations without abnormalities are carried out as much as what people would like you to believe they are.

Takethis - im sorry for your loss

That story makes me quite angry as my stepsister ended up having a abortion at 5months, she didn't do it for selfish reason but because the baby has a severe medical problem, wasn't growing correctly and the baby wouldn't have survived anyway and she could have possibly ended up dying along with the baby.

It was not an easy choice for her, she very much wanted that child. And the saddest thing I have ever seen is her explaining to my 5yr old niece that the baby in Mummy's tummy had died. When her family had already been through so much. Especially as my niece is thankfully currently in remission from leukaemia and had been so happy that she was going to be a big sister.

I would be very angry and so would the rest of my family if they started getting harassed because a group thinks they have the right to that information, where its just a statistic to them.

I truly feel for families that have to go through a late abortion as it is not an easy choice and my heart goes out to anyone that has gone through it

takethis I am so sorry :(

And you are absolutely right, these aren't faceless numbers. There's a story behind each and every one of those numbers.
