OUTSIDE the maternity section of my hospital shouted at me for no reason because I just looked at her smoking?

I didn't even give disapproving looks - just looked and then looked away as I walked past because I don't like the smell of smoke - it makes me feel sick.

As I walked away she shouted something like "YEA I'M PREGNANT AND SMOKIN' U GOT A FUCKIN' PROBLEM".

I didn't have a problem with her being pregnant and smoking....but I don't like people smoking RIGHT OUTSIDE hospitals so I have to inhale 80% of their tar as I walk past.

It hasn't really affected me in a big way, but I don't want the woman to think I was judging her - I was just judging her chosen spot for smoking. I also think the woman (actually girl) was quite rude....She obviously felt guilty for what she was doing.

AIBU..... :(

I was told to stop fucking eating by a gentleman when I was pregnant. Although I had put on weight I was not in the obese category and most of my size was all bump. So they do get judged.

Oh and btw I wasn't actually eating anything at that point, I was drinking from a bottle of water.

When my wife was pregnant, one time we were about to leave the hospital I noticed a bloke smoking right by the door I knew my wife was going to be walking through in a couple of minutes time. I asked him politely to move to a different place not far away (I actually pointed to a place as a suggestion) and he did without any complaint.

I just wish the hospital enforced its rules. There were plenty of signs but the security guards don't bother, even if they are smoking right by the doors.

i think the last thread on this subject comprehensively established that smoking in pregnancy is much less serious than committing the cardinal sin of being "judgey". Hmm FFS.

she sounds like an aggressive loon shouting at strangers like that, why give a fuck what she thinks?

"I'm sorry about your still birth Cory, but it wasn't the fault of the smoking mother was it?"

No, it wasn't. But there are stillbirths which are the result of their mothers smoking, and then additional health problems for other babies. It's highly irresponsible and reckless behaviour when pregnant.

Xstitch is right, though, it just felt unfair!!

OP unless she was telepathic you must have gone out of your way to make a pregnant woman unhappy. Is there any way we can persuade you to keep away from vulnerable people in future?

worraliberty · 05/07/2011 10:59

just keeping

My point was (albeit badly made), people should give up smoking before they get pregnant and obese people should also lose weight before they get pregnant...as both carry risks to their unborn babies.

If the pregnancy is unplanned, I imagine it's hard to give up either addiction..whether it's food or cigarettes.

However, smokers seem to get the rougher end of the judgey deal imo.
