AIBU to just not feel the love for Beyonce ?

I just don't like her music, the screechy and repetitive "ballads", the latest single which is bloody boring and most of all the fact she seems to have based her whole solo career on the fact she has a very flexible lower spine

The OTT (bloke in drag) dress sense, the hair-weaves (wigs?), the Glastonbury performance which had a couple of catchy hits and then an hour of dreary monotone interspersed with booty-shaking < yawn >

I just don't get her. And I don't want to. AIBU ?

i pretty much like her, and i very much like her husband, but was struck by how REVOLUTIONARY it seemed at Glastonbury for Janelle Monae to be WEARING CLOTHES. Shock

and flat shoes. egads. i really thought her set was better than Beyonce's, by a country mile.

Shes a beautiful lady and seems to be a nice person but as a musician i have no interest in her. If you want to hear a real empowered black woman listen to Marlena Shaw's Woman of the Ghetto - Beyonce's music is insipid in comparison. I also find it curious that she's held up as some kind of quasi-femenist icon when her values are more in line with traditional Christian values (put a ring on it?) and her hubby raps how lucky he is cos he's got 99 problems but his 'bitch' isn't one.

I don't know who Janelle Monae is

i reckon you'll know soon enough, farside, she's amazing.

TheFarSideOfFuck · 04/07/2011 17:28

I think she is very beautiful.

But she has never been an independent woman. She was originally a construct of her parents. Now she is a construct of her husband.

Having read this weekends interview with her in the Sunday Times, she seems to think she is representing the ladies, that saying 'marry me' to a man is psycho (much better to ask them to 'put a ring on it'). She is a beacon for women in burqas and oppressed women Hmm. I think her ego is flourishing.

On the plus side, I admire her stamina and determination. She has a phenomenal energy and really is a proper, old school entertainer - all-singing, all-dancing, consummate professional, 'the show must go on' etc. I've seen her perform live several times and ma always blown away.

I don't like her music much, though, it has to be said. It gets worse as she 'develops as an artist'. Screechy voice, inane lyrics etc. Hate her videos these days, too. She is always half naked, writhing around singing some girl power guff while thrusting her crotch in our faces.

She is gorgeous, though Grin

AitchTwoOh · 04/07/2011 20:34

apparently they wanted to rihanna her up a bit and she said NO THANKS.

TheFarSideOfFuck · 04/07/2011 20:36

will look out for her
