My neighbour has asked me to pick up my cat's poo from their garden. Literally she wants to be able to call on me to come and pick it up on an as and when basis.

I have 2 cats. They have only just started going outside, about 1 month so far. I still have a litter tray at home and they do use it but they are also beginning to 'go' outside too.

My view is that cats should not be locked in doors. I had to keep them indoors for the first 6th months because I was told by the shelter that they needed their injections, be neutered and micro chipped before they could venture outside and all that wasn't done till they were 6 months old.

I keep my cats up to date with their injections and worm/flee ointment - well they are only 7 months old at the moment, but I fully intend to keep them up to date.

There are other cats in the area. The house behind mine has 2 big cats and we are in a rural area with foxes. Also, my neighbours have a dog. Nice dog, sometimes it barks but it isn't really a problem if I'm honest. I like dogs as much as cats, I'm not anti dogs or anything.

Am I legally obliged to pick up my cats poo?

I've spoken to my mother and she has told me that I should pick up my cat's poo if the neighbour asks. The thing is, I may have to go round there each day or two to do it.

Does the op really think her neighbour should lobby for a change in the law on responsibility for cat shit; because that's the only way she's prepared to clean up after her own shitebag cat? Confused
She should be really grateful she doesn't live next to me. She'd be getting up close and personal with the aforementioned cat shit, every time it appeared in my garden.

HamishBamish · 01/09/2014 16:41

I think this OP is from over 3 years ago...

Letthemtalk · 01/09/2014 16:41

2011!!!!!!!;!!

bellarations · 01/09/2014 16:42

This has made my day!
I also admire your neighbour and think she is not BU at all.
Your cat, your crap, you clean it up!
It's gross to clear up shit, even after your own animals, never mind someone else's.

Bulbasaur · 01/09/2014 16:43

If you were my neighbor, I'd be throwing the poo right back onto your property probably on your door step. Your poo, your problem.

dawndonnaagain · 01/09/2014 16:49

Why on earth dig up a four year old thread?

Summerisle1 · 01/09/2014 16:55

This may be a zombie thread but it's a topic close to a friend's heart. Her neighbour was blatantly unconcerned about the piles of vile smelling cat poo that her cats left on my friend's small paved yard. In fact, my friend was given the impression that she ought to feel honoured to go out every morning and scoop it up. Me, I posted it back over the wall. I hope the neighbour enjoyed stepping in it as much as we had...

Medibeagle · 01/09/2014 17:06

If there is a safe way to do it (I don't know, don't have a cat) how about putting some blue dye in their food? You would be able to see which is your cat poo and which is not.

Yeah, but then she risks being the crazy cat lady. "That's not my cat poo, my cats only poo blue". Could you imagine that conversation? Grin

I hear crayons turn poop colors and they're non toxic.

BathshebaBabbling · 01/09/2014 17:21

I wonder why people ignore that great big Zombie warning and go ahead and post anyway?

BathshebaBabbling · 01/09/2014 17:24

I mean it's there right above the box where you type, you cannot miss it..

seasavage · 01/09/2014 17:26

It appears in a separate window on my silly new phone?

Medibeagle · 01/09/2014 18:17

I had no zombie warning! I still don't!

Medibeagle · 01/09/2014 18:19

Also, I would enjoy a 'that's not my cat's poo, its not blue enough' thread however old... Grin

YourMaNoBraBackOfMyCar · 01/09/2014 18:53

My cat never poos in anyone else's garden. I know because I feed her glitter and on a moonlit night our garden is quite captivating. ( but our neighbours is not. )

SweetsForMySweet · 01/09/2014 21:09

It's illegal not to pick up dog pooh(fine for littering) so no reason it shouldn't be the same for cats. Better that neighbour gave the option of cleaning up after your pets than finding her own way of sorting the disgusting & irritating problem your cats

Janethegirl · 01/09/2014 21:59

I'd flick it over the hedge if it was my next door neighbour ( and hope it landed on them). Cats are just filthy creatures.

FrancesNiadova · 01/09/2014 22:02

You could supply your neighbour with a water pistol to wet your cat's every time they appear in her garden.
I have a cat & my neighbour, ( who also has a cat,) complained that my cat was in her garden.
1 spray with a water pistol & she doesn't venture near anymore! Also, it doesn't harm them at all!

FrancesNiadova · 01/09/2014 22:03

Cats

TheBloodManCometh · 01/09/2014 22:09

Bloody hell. The cat poo nutters are out in force tonight.

F0ssil · 01/09/2014 22:11

I admire her balls.

crazylady321 · 01/09/2014 22:15

Ok this is an old post but still, Im sick of cats!! I dont hate them or anything but I dont see point in having cats as pets they may aswell be wild the amount we have roming our street think out of about 20 properties on my street half must have 1 or more cats and they seem to be out all hours. They are attacking birds, fighting each other creeping in my house if leave back door open they dont even seem botherd about the dogs! And worse still the dogs dont bat an eyelid so much for dogs hating cats.
Its bad enough I have to clean my own dog shit up but thats my decision to have a dog and then my OH has moved in and brought his I dont wanna be cleaning cat shit up too especially when pregnant all the germs they must have from killing mice and birds yuk

Honeybear30 · 01/09/2014 22:22

How do these threads even get revived? Did someone google cat crap...

I don't get it, never mind not seeing the massive zombie warning.

DancingDinosaur · 01/09/2014 22:24

My neighbours cats used to shit in my other neighbours garden. He is retired and a very keen gardener. He asked her to come and clear up the cat shit. I don't blame him. It was wrecking his vegie patch. Anyway she was a bit like you op, and she laughed and refused. Gardener neighbour reached the end of his tether and started picking it up with a shovel and catapulting the shit at her kitchen window. I guess selfish cat shit woman got sick of her windows being smeared in shit, because after a week or so she started to go round and clear it up.

crazylady321 · 01/09/2014 22:37

DancingDinosaur - haha that is too funny reminds me of the time my mums next door neighbour accused my little brother of throwing sweet wrappers in his garden over the fence while bouncing on trampoline and when she said she didnt buy him those type of sweets he started swearing and huffing and puffing (baring in mind he was about 13 at time and probilly bought himself them). She woke up next morning to find the trampoline covered in sweet wrappers, crisp packets think he had been round the whole street litter picking in the early hours
