To stand at the school gates giving out nit combs and nit repellant?

Oviously i can't really do that, but you get the gist Angry

I noticed on Sunday night that DS2 was itching and checked his head and he had lice. OK, fair enough, every kid gets them. Did him, DD, DS3 and manshape with Full Marks and a Nitty Gritty comb. Did myself with conditioner as i'm pregnant. Washed all the bedding. Make sure DS2 was nit free. Checked him again Monday morning and he was clean.

Checked him when he came home yesterday and he had nits again. Did him with full marks again (hadn't realised you weren't supposed to do it more than once a week) Checked everyone again and we were all clear.

Spoke to his teacher who said she'd inform the office and a letter would be sent home to parents asking them to check their kids hair.

Before sending DS2 to school today, i checked his hair again and he was clean. Guess what he came home with??? Angry So i've had to condition his hair and got to it with a nitty gritty again.

I'm so fucking sick of it though - how difficult it is to check your childs hair and treat the lice? Hell you can get full marks and a nitty gritty on perscription if need be!!

Short of shaving all his hair off, i don't know what else i can do. Bloody sick of it.

AIBU to want to tell all the kids parents in his class to check their bloody kids hair?

YANBU. Thankfully we've just had a whole month of no lice. Unbeliveable. DD seems to attract them, or just attracts friends whose parent's don't give a toss who have them.
Children of 10 can do their own conditioner combing, but parents must supervise depsite what Xs mum says Angry

I feel your pain too. Catching headlice is my younger daughter's special talent! I do two hedrin treatments 7 days apart and check each week with a comb and conditioner. We have a pattern of her getting them each half term this school year and I itch constantly!

I've only had to deal with nits once - I caught them off my nephew when my sister failed to mention he had them -thanks for that, sister! I've just been to the meet the teacher thing at dd's primary and liked her the minute she stood up with a huge bottle of conditioner and a comb, saying " These are your friends, please use them and check hair regulary."

lifeisafourletterword I am a child protection social worker and we have never ever ever received a referral from school regarding headlice!! Clearly if there were other indicators school would consider whether to refer in or not but on nits alone, no, child protection teams would go under in a day!!

Sigh. He's got them again. I honestly can't see them being ones i've missed because he's been treated so often and i make sure i do a very very thorough job. And i check him every morning before school.

I'm totally at my wits end and am very glad tomorrow he isn't in school. Much as it pains me, i'll get him clean again tonight, then he's having his head shaved tomorrow.

There was a case reported in our local newspaper re ss intervention and nits. This wasn't just a nit infestation though the poor childs head was scabby and infected, she had nits for a LONG LONG time.

The mum was charged with neglect after the second BAD infestation. I can't see ss getting involved over a normal nit infestation though. Even thought the report only mentioned the nits I imagine she was neglected in other ways.

It is a pita though, I am just glad my nit hunting days are over, DD now 15 had the thickest curliest hair and it was a nightmare denitting her head.
