To have expected a bit more notice?

Or is it reasonable for my cm to tell me today she is taking a 2 week holiday in 2 weeks time, i know she is entitled to take it at some point but just expected a bit more notice than this, neither dp or I have that amount of time spare to take as leave and no family we can rely on, she said it was a last minute booking and i dont begrudge her the time off, im just really worried about finding replacement childcare at such short notice. I also remember last year she forgot to tell me she was going on holiday until really late in the day but we were lucky then we had some family to fall back on. I just feel a bit wrongfooted or am i BU?

knittedbreast you really don't get it. If the CM breaches the terms of her own contract and causes loss to the OP the OP is entitled to redress. That loss can be in the form of the OP having to take unpaid time off work (for example) to cover the CM's holiday.

If the breach is serious enough the OP could terminate the arrangement with immediate effect and make no further payment to the CM.

I think that we are at a level lower than this but it is reasonable for the OP to negotiate less than 4 weeks payment to the CM as karmabeliever suggests.

Give notice now and pay the next 2 weeks but not the holiday weeks.

Unprofessional IMO

My lovely Cm wouldn't do this.

what about just going along with it anyway? that would be a nice thing to do. its a holiday, her break. c`mon

ashamed Sorry this was ages ago - yes, you are right, but there is a difference between PL because your child is ill and PL because your child-minder decided to take a last-minute holiday and couldn't be arsed to tell you in time. I just covered for a colleague about 2-3 weeks ago when it was quite inconvenient because his DSS got really sick and was up all night. That's fine. I wouldn't appreciate him adding to my workload with only 10 working days' notice if it was because his childcare was flaky.

knitted are you for real? People in employment/ who run businesses don't get to swan off at a minute's notice. It'd be nice if my employer let me take tomorrow off cos it's supposed to be sunny and I want to go to the beach- but I can't just start missing meetings because I fancy it. She can take a holiday, but like any other normal person she needs to give adequate notice.

We're all employees - all 'hired help' Hmm

Actually Knitted she is not the hired help at all but a self employed person who i have a contract with for services she provides, and yes I would be happy to just go along with it, maybe you could come along and stand in for 2 weeks Hmm
