To think that butter is essential but chilli's aren't?

I've just been arguing with DH about fridge contents. Me and DD were in England from Thursday to Sunday and got back late last night.
I decided some toast would be the ideal way to start today. I toasted the bread, went to the butter dish and it was empty. Looked in the fridge. No butter.
DH said he was at the supermarket and knew he needed something but couldn't put his finger on what it was.
He decided that you can never have enough chilli's. What the fuckety fuck world does he live in/
So, MN jury. Chillis or butter. What is an essential?

You and me both Fifichef - I love butter and all pure dairy products, and you won't find any 'be good to yourself' or 'just like' synthetic crap in my 'fridge either. Unsalted Lurpak straight from the fridge and spread on toast is delicious, but over all I prefer Normandy butters 'for best' - President seems to be most available in the UK.

If you're in Belgium you've got easy access an extensive choice of butters, kreecher. Keep a couple of packs hidden at the back of the freezer, make sure your dh stocks up the egg rack when you're away, and you won't be short of scrummy lightly cooked chopped chillies and scrambled eggs to have on your morning toast with the obligatory java and a fag to follow.

When your dh's tomato plants produce some fruit, try pa amb oli for breakfast (or as an anytime snack): crush a clove of garlic and rub it over a slice of crusty bread or half a baguette, cut a tomato in half and rub the juices into the bread, drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with a little salt and black pepper (optional), and savour the flavour - if you only have supermarket sliced to hand, lightly toast the bread first.

I read this as saying that a butler is essential. I would love a butler :o

Izzy, that is one of my fave lunches.
curry I'd love a butler
My absolute favourite is french and has lumps of sea salt in it.
We are now in possesion of a kilo of salted ordinary butter. I won't bother freezing it, we'll use it in about a week. It may last longer though, DH is away for 18 days starting on thursday.
He's going to Thailand, maybe he'll bring me a butler back.
