My friend told me yesterday that she gets her babysitter to iron for her at the same time!

She pays her £5 per hour for babysitting (she is 16) and gets her to tackle the ironing once the kids are in bed. She says this is because she is not paying her "to sit around and do nothing all evening".

Before anyone says its none of my business etc etc I know that but I was just a little Shock when she told me and cant help thinking she is taking the piss she is being a little bit mean.

What do you all think?

I babysit and don't mind doing a bit of tidying/ironing if I feel like this. However 1 boss would pay me a pittance to babysit and then leave the house a mess to tidy up and ironing out - now that used to bug me!

And I talk as a qualified OFSTED registered nanny

I would have babysat and done chores at 16 if I was paid over the going rate. I'm guessing £5 per hour is the going rate for straight babysitting, which for me means sitting on the sofa, watching tv/reading in case you are needed.

When I was a teen I got £2 per hour! £5 would certainly have bought my ironing services :) But I think she's being very mean with this girl - if she wants chores doing she should be offering another couple of quid per hour.
