You could have saved yourself a load of effort and just had a title 'To think Bono is a total twat'

I hear that most people went to the 'secret' Radiohead gig anyway.

What pissed me off last night was the lack of protest, they held up a balloon, it was taken down by security, and that was it! I thought people at Glastonbury would try a bit harder than that. I would have expected a shower of piss filled bottles to be hurled at him at the very least.

This thread reminds me of the South Park episode where they think that Bono holds the record for taking the worlds largest shit, but it turns out that he IS the worlds largest shit.

didn't there used to be tax free status for artists in Ireland?

isn't it really the US that goes crazy over U2 for some unknown reason.

Sunday Bloody Sunday song, honestly, that tapped into Irish-American feelings on NI, and firmly established them like nothing else could.

Are we congratulating people for fidelity now? Well done, you haven't cheated on your wife? Grin

TBH.....I like Ricky Gervais' attitude to slebs and charidee. It's pretty much all self promoting hypocrisy.

It's one thing evading tax, it is quite another to ask people to give their money to charity. Bono, when you have as much money in your bank as I have, then you can ask me to give my money away. Until then, fuck off.

oh FFS I've just seen that link and had several frissons of irritation:

  • Does he always wear fucking sunglasses? He's shaking hands wiht some white male important powerful person inside a building and he's wearing sunglasses. Why?

  • That photo of his charity's employee - does he have a policy of only employing young people?

  • Why the fuck does he need his own anti-pverty fighting foundation anyway? Does he think he can do it better than Oxfam? Ricky Gervaise is right isn't he, it's complete egotism - I'm going to solve poverty by myself by setting up a charity that employs nearly all young beautiful people that's closely associate wth me me me so it will be more successful than boring old Oxfam and the others and will give more money to the causes than them...oh wait...

There's really no end to the pleasure of wallowing in how ghastly he is, is there? You could go on all day, if you didn't have things to do. Grin

Bono is a right twunt.

YANBU - Bono has forgotten that he is a tedious self-righteous middle age pop singer - he thinks he is up there with Obama et al. He is a wanker.

What I find curious is that U2 were originally a 'Christian' band. Where have their religious convictions gone?

If I were a Christian (which I'm not), I would presumably be trying to follow the example of Mr J.C who memorably said, 'Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's' (if I recall correctly) and that it was easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of Heaven.

In this light, tax evasion seems distinctly hypocritical.

He is a twat. And I have heard that he has an 'open' marriage.

I would like to ask Janey a question, please.

She said: "If he wasn't in a world famous band he would be generating far less wealth for the economy."

Can she please explain to the rest of us exactly how he is "generating wealth for the economy"?

Because I think you will find that this is actually a load of bollocks.

Can't stand his preaching but I think he's completely right to minimise his tax bill. It's just sensible and practical.

.....he hasn't a good track record on charitable giving:

from the Metro...

The non-profit One campaign received almost £9.6million in donations in 2008 but handed over only £118,000 to good causes.

Figures show that the group also spent more than £5.1million on executive and staff salaries.
