To become a vegetarian?

I have tried twice and after a week I have felt quite ill. I've made fresh food everyday including lots of veg, rice, cheese, pulses etc but can't seem to do it without getting ill! Any advice and is it unreasonable to attempt it

If you change your diet radically overnight then you are going to make yourself feel ill whether you are going from meat eater to veggie, veggie to meat eater, healthy to unhealthy etc. You'll feel especially bad if you've replaced all of your meat with pulses because you'll have dramatically increased your fiber intake overnight - if you read any diet book recommending a high fiber diet then if they're worth listening to they'll tell you to phase it in slowly because your digestive system wont be able to cope otherwise, partly because of the obvious reason and partly because the balance of bacteria in your digestive system will be adapted to your diet. Like others have said you should try to phase it out gradually so if you have meat at every meal cut that down to 2 meals a day for a couple of weeks, then one meal a day for another couple of weeks, then meat every other day for a while.
