No, but I do meditate. Bearing in mind I believe in no deity, that's the closest I'll ever come.

BsshBossh · 23/06/2011 13:58

Rhubarb0 - because DH doesn't believe there's any truth in God or Christianity (or any spiritual belief system in fact) he doesn't mind me taking DD to Church because he thinks it's harmless. It's all completely irrelevant to him and he sees the opportunity of DD and I out of the house for an hour on a Sunday morning as his opportunity to chill out alone Grin. He doesn't see Christianity as a cult like Scientology - just pretty harmless so he has no problems with me involving DD in it. His mother has huge problems with it being the Catholic Church (and I can see where she's coming from) but she still attending DD's Christening and never brings our Church-going up as a problem.

TheRhubarb · 23/06/2011 14:01

So no conflict then? That's pretty cool. Mine is a catholic but a lapsed one who sometimes gets moments of spirituality and then sometimes doesn't. Luckily dd and ds has faith for both of us and I say luckily because I've never gone ott with either of them with regards to their faith. We sometimes miss Mass for several weeks and they don't attend a catholic school yet both of them are fairly into God, with ds saying "I love you but not as much as God!" Very sweet!

You must be so close to your family, esp after such a scare.

BsshBossh · 23/06/2011 14:31

Rhubarb0 my Hindu parents sent me to Catholic primary school but refused to put my religion down on the application form - much to the Hmm of the Sister headmistress - stating that I would make my own mind up when I was old enough. Even though I eventually became a Catholic by choice and even though my DD is also Christened I'll never "force" belief of any kind on her. I take her to Church because she's 3 but am fully aware she can/may one day turn to me and say "I don't want to go" and then she can spend that one hour with her Dad Grin.

I've always been very close to my parents (wasn't with DH when I was ill) but yes illness mades us closer - especially to my mum who was heartbroken by it all. Now I have my own DD I now understand exactly what my parents went through seeing their only child (albeit a proper adult!) so ill. I am exceptionally close to my mum nowadays.

Insomnia11 · 23/06/2011 14:41

Curry Well I do say "Dear God..." and "Amen" at the end. I'm not atheist but agnostic I would say.

madhairday · 23/06/2011 14:44

Yes, all the time, it's just an ongoing thing for me like through the day, as well as at specific times. And yes I get answers, but not big booming voices telling me what to do Grin

madhairday · 23/06/2011 14:44

not sure where rogue 'like' came from in that post

ohhappyday · 23/06/2011 14:49

I pray all day long - it may be aloud, in my head, singing etc. Doesn't matter what you pray about God is interested in the small things as well as the large things in our lives. Christianity is all about having a personal relationship with Jesus but remember he loves us all not just those who pray. His door is always open.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 23/06/2011 14:50

Yes but as I've got older it's more of a running commentary than a kneeling down/Dear God sort of situation. I save that for mass :)

kazmus · 23/06/2011 14:59

i prayed every day for the 5 months my daughter was in hospital, took communion, the works, and she died. Havent done it since, what's the point if no one is listening :(

BsshBossh · 23/06/2011 15:41

kazmus so Sad...

mumeeee · 23/06/2011 17:03

Yes everyday, I don't use formal jargon but just everyday words, I

mumeeee · 23/06/2011 17:04

I agree with you ohhappyday

TimeWasting · 23/06/2011 17:12

Nope, not part of my religion.

MittzyTheVixen · 23/06/2011 17:22

I have a belief that doesn't involve a god, but my Daughter does, and she appreciates me praying with her. I bow my head and say 'Amen' when she is finished.

She often then reads a small section of the Bible to me. She also likes to say Grace from time to time. Of all the things my DS torments her about, I insist on absolute respect for her faith.

Although we share different beliefs, my time with DD and her faith is an important part of my Day.

izzywhizzyletsgetbusy · 23/06/2011 17:57

I believe in living magically and I spend time visualising what I want to attract into my life.

To clear my mind of earthly concerns, I meditate - although, in my usually sleep deprived state, meditating often results in a catnap.

izzywhizzyletsgetbusy · 23/06/2011 18:00

Sad I am so very sorry for your loss kazmus, and that your prayers were not answered.

Empusa · 23/06/2011 18:25

"I meditate - although, in my usually sleep deprived state, meditating often results in a catnap."

Oh I know that one Blush

basingstoke · 23/06/2011 18:26

I do. I pray formally in church and informally, well, whenever I feel the urge. Varies.

thejaffacakesareonme · 23/06/2011 18:55

Yes. It's an important part of my life.

CareyHunt · 23/06/2011 19:30

I pray every day, mainly to give thanks but also to ask for God's guidance. I also say grace before dinner, and pray with my kids at bed time. We talk about the day and give thanks for the good bits, and ask for God to help us not to worry about the bad bits. I think it helps us to be aware of our many blessings.

MumblingRagDoll · 23/06/2011 19:42

All the time! I dont go to church but I pray.

LetThereBeRock · 23/06/2011 19:49

No.I'm an atheist.

wildkittydeer · 24/06/2011 21:17

Yes I pray very frequently in fact. I like to think of God very much in terms of the Christ on the crucifix in the Don Camillo stories. It is wonderful to pray just like a normal conversation to someone who accepts you entirely as you are.

Pumpernickel10 · 24/06/2011 21:18

I don't usually but this week I have with my poorly pup
