why does my school give less than a weeksnotice.

i have written a letter, but not sure to post it or not. this is how it goes.

Dear Mrs xxxxxxx
I am unhappy about the short notice that is given about staff training day, I know these staff training day are important and they need to be done.
However as a working mother, i need to arrange childcare for my son. I am not the only parent that faces this, so would like more than a week notice of upcoming staff training days.

Our council has fixed dates for all schools. The ones for the year after next are already published.

Maybe ask another parent, just to be sure the letter wasn't just a reminder of the date, and it was known for longer?

Is this training day on the 30th June just wondering if it is connected to the strike action?

maddy68 · 20/06/2011 22:35

it might be the strike or it might be the lieu day for the royal wedding. all the other dates are announced well in advance

cat64's comment on letters from the teacher rarely making their way to the parents make me wonder why schools don't email the parents (or at least those that have PCs) instead.

There's nothing wrong with your grammar or your original letter Auntie, but I'd advise you to take out any reference to other parents unless this is something you've discussed with some of them and you know that they'll support your request.

Ask the School Secretary for staff training dates tomorrow, and if no school calendar is forthcoming send a letter along the lines of the following to the Headteacher:

Dear Mr/Ms/Mrs their surname,

I know staff training is important but, as a working mother, I need more than a week's notice to arrange alternative childcare for my son during school term time.

Is it possible for you to publish the dates of INSET days at the commencement of each school year, or provide at least one month's notice of staff training days?

Yours sincerely,

Ms (or Mrs) A P Bottom.
