to think adult males should not call their mothers "Mummy"

Brother and sister both professionals in their 30s call their mother Mummy to her in conversation, in letters and emails and between each other, this is said with a certain awkward little boy/girl voice.

Mother calls them by childhood pet names, daughter is "Honey Bunny". She buys them chocolate advent calendars every December, I could go on but you get the gist...

DH is the son, it all makes me want to yell "Eeeuuuuwwww! just stop now!"

Is this actually odd or is this because they are middle class English and I'm not?

DH calls his mum, 'mum' (or mom actually but whole different thread). She, however, signs all her cards and letters to him as 'Mommy'.

I have always thought it weird and like she's trying to hang on to something that is gone, gone, gone.

So most are alright with adult daughters saying "mummy" "daddy"

It seems it is not alright (for some) for men to do the same?

pommedechocolat your post made me feel sad...

Sorry joy! I think it came out a bit more depressing than I meant. I think adult relationships with children must be, if good, amazing too and I wish MIL would get with that a bit more.

Oh,Thanks for elaborating :)

That is a good point.

By a strange situation,I have 2 MIL's ... one thinks I am great,one ...not so much Grin
