To be PISSED OFF with people on facebook spelling father 'farther' in father's day messages.

It isn't exactly the hardest thing to spell.
I am exercising my restraint to not comment on them and tell them it is wrong.
Normally I can handle wrong spellings, but seriously?

'I canny wait' is more slang than bad spelling and pretty common in Scotland. :)

Can't see me typing it though, i use punctuation in my text messages and everything.

We don't pronounce father and suchlike with an extra 'r' up here though, so my Facebook should be mostly safe...

I know it's slang but I'm in Yorkshire and so is my dsis and friend who have started using it.

At least they're not doing it on national television.

My Dad wouldn't look at FB if you paid him. But I've changed my profile picture to one of him, changed my name to Showy'sDad, written him a dozen twee messages and liked 'I love my Dad'.

Am I good daughter now? Somebody please tell me...

OP - it is annoying, I understand, but is basically a sign of the lack of knowledge people have on spelling basic words. The amount of people I know who confuse 'their' with 'there' and similar is mind-melting.

(not that I'm perfect, of course, but just giving sympathy to the OP)

YANBU Other misspellings don't bother me so much but that one irritates me for some reason.

Doesn't annoy me as much as misuse of your and you're though - makes me want to scream

I have a whole group of fb friends- many of whom don't know each other- who seem to have substituted the word "I" with "a".
As in - "a have been to the shop" or

• "beer? Don't mind if a do."

Is this a new thing? Why is it that it's more than one person? I reckon that's got to be some crap schooling!

Agree with the pointlessness of putting stuff on FB for people without FB. Like putting a poem talking to your Grandad in the local paper whe he's been dead for five years. He's unlikely to see it.

I don't know if FB attracts stupid people or if stupid people are more likely to use it. It's not just the spelling, as there are often reasons for that, it's the all-out dimness of so many people. FB = Best avoided
