I went to collect DD from nursery the other day, when I arrived there was another parent collecting her DS, and I overheard a conversation between her and one of the young nursery assistants.

The nursery assistant was giving the mum a rundown of her sons day, and commented that he hadn't eaten much lunch, the mum asked what had been served for lunch, the nursery worker said pasta bolognaise and the mum laughed in her face and said "you can't expect a kid to eat that - this is a nursery you should serve normal kid food".

The (very young and now rather anxious-looking) nursery worker asked the mum whether she had noted her son's food preferences on his paperwork form (there is a section for allergies/intolerances/religious needs/dislikes etc) and the mum said she didn't need to as her son ate 'all normal kid food'.

By this point DD had come out and we were ready to leave, the other mother was still going on that she was going to complain that the children were not being served suitable food, as 'you can't expect a child to eat that sort of thing', by this point she was talking to the nursery worker as if she was stupid, and another member of staff had joined the conversation.

I left with DD but can't help but wonder (and wish I'd asked the mum) - what does 'kid food' constitute? Does it come in a labelled bag, like dog food for instance? [evil laugh]

My freezer has got a pack of Dinosaur turkey shapes in it at the moment and I don't have kids, I just like dinosaurs and they were cheap

TBH I've better things to do than cooking seperate meals.DC will eat curry, chilli, spag bol, carbonara, shepards pie, roast, whatever is put in front of them.

Well except peas.None of them will eat peas.

Lol Panda,I would worry if it was full of all sorts of 'kiddie products' like Mickey Mouse shapped spag bol, frozen frubes etc.

Bumwiper - everything else is 'grown-up' food

except the smiley shaped potato pieces that I bought for a laugh to cheer myself up!

Oh dear - I should have namechanged for that confession...

IME nurseries do serve kids food:

spag bol
cottage pie
macaroni cheese
sausage and mash
fish pie

That kind of thing.

There are many people here aswell who talk about 'kids food' in threads about grown ups parties, NYE, etc.

To me 'kids food' is in the same category as 'carpet in the bathroom', these two british things i will never get even if i stay another 50 years here.

I wish DD would eat spag bol as it is so quick and easy! As it is she runs a mile from anything with tomato in (baked beans are exempt from this for some strange reason)
