To spend £15 a week on alcohol?

I love champagne and have just found a deal for £10 a bottle (of good stuff). I would drink it over the weekend and drink about 1/2 bottle of cheaper red wine throught the week. DH thinks I'm being unreasonable for buying the £10 bottle of champers saying it only has 4 glasses per bottle and I'm wasting money, aibu?

Wel it depends, if you can afford it, of course not. If you can;t then of course you are!

If you were going without bread and milk to buy it, then yes. obviously Grin if you can easily afford it, then why the hell not? Why have something that you don't like, just because it's cheaper?

Surely that's not good and just having any old crap simply because it has alcohol is not a good thing at all!

Although I much prefer a good cup of tea myself Grin

Question is - how much does your DH spend on alcohol in a week?

If it's more than £15 he has no argument.

YADNBU I don't often drink but love bubbly wine/champagne and would definitely have to have some if it was on offer!
My DP wouldn't be able to object as he spends around 30 quid a week on alcohol!

this DH spends about that but he says his cans of beer go further and I would only get baout 4 glasses from a bottle.

We're not well off at all but I see it as if we went to a bar we would spend that on a round!

cheaper to drink at home than going out to a bar and buying rounds.
DH and I spend more than that, but we don't go out, have takeaways, go to the cinema etc.
Depends what your disposable income is.

Would be a lot dearer if you went out and bought 4 glasses of wine.

We spend a fair bit more than that on alcohol each week if I am honest. I always share a botte or two of fizz with a friend on a Friday so that eats into some of it.

Having recently spent £8 in a local pub for two drinks (!) I appreciate your comparison with the price of going out for a drink.

It's £15 a week.... unless you're on the breadline I'd say go for it. It's about that for 3 drinks in a pub now.

But if you are happy with having 4 glasses, what's it to him?

If you were saying to him that because you only get 4 glasses, you must have 3 bottles so you have more glasses, that would be unreasonable! But you are saying that you prefer to drink that and are happy to have the 4 glasses.

But he wants you to have something cheaper so that you can have more glasses of it?

I think he's missing the point.

DH is like this. He would have 10 bars of Sainsbo basic choc and thinks I'm mad for preferring 1 bar of Lindt...

If you can afford it and it's your preferred tipple yanbu.

My mother drinks champagne rather than wine (she always buys special offers),we sunk a bottle a few Sundays ago with our lunch -twas very lovely Grin

Does anyone think cava tastes as good as champagne? Perhaps that would be a compromise!

Yes he's missing the point. You can afford (just) to have fewer glasses of booze but to have something you love. So win-win for you health- and happiness-wise.

Otherwise why not just spend a fiver on thunderbird because "It gets you there"?

Prosecco is the way to go.

Or buy smaller glasses so you can say "Look DH, 8 glasses of delicious champagne for only £10!"

I've never tried Prosecco but might give it a go, sounds like I've been missing out! Does it taste as good as champagne?

I think so, but then I am from Italian stock so might get flamed in hell id I say otherwise but, seriously, its very very good!

Confused the links hows Champagne from tesco? I've never heard of that maker...I would still buy Prosecco above cheap champagne.

Ahhh, now I have tried that brand, not their Prosecco, and its was drinkable. I would say, but one and try it. Then let me know what you think! I bought their Pinot Grigio, its was fine. Not great, but perfectly drinkable.
