AIBU to be bored rigid by BBC "sit-coms"?

They are just painfully, totally, CRAPPILY UN-FUNNY, usually revolving around some dysfunctional family and re-hashing the same stereotypical gags. Will Mellor irritates me just by sight - can he only play one character?! I can't actually think of any really funny recent ones. My mum loves My Family, but I never "got" it.

Just annoyed cos this dross is wasting half an hour between Waterloo Rd and the Apprentice...
Give me the oldies - Only Fools / Fawlty Towers, etc any time!

Two Pints of Lager etc is the unfunniest shitcom I have ever had the misfortune of accidentally watching in my life. Why has it ran for so long?!

Coming of Age on BBC3 is fucking dire as well.

manticlimactic · 15/06/2011 23:00

Not Going out is one reason to GO OUT! I like Lee Mack (it is Lee Mack isn't it?) but not in this. I hate anything with canned laughter with one exception. Vicar of Dibley.

manticlimactic · 15/06/2011 23:00

Ooh I like Outnumbered, just seen that mentioned.

manticlimactic · 15/06/2011 23:01

Ooh and Miranda...sometimes

LineRunner · 15/06/2011 23:22

Yep, they are all shite.

Lead Balloon is only good because of Mgda's 'unheppiness'. And that one joke wore thin last series if I'm honest.

Caroline Quentin needs shooting.

DilysPrice · 15/06/2011 23:28

Miranda, Rev and Outnumbered are all pretty good - I reckon 3 decent BBC sitcoms is a reasonable number, it's just that none of them are on at the mo.

But the 3 best comedies on the BBC are Horrible Histories, Sorry I've Got No Head and Little Howard's Big Questions. DH and I ate a late supper in front of the telly tonight and there was sod all on live TV so we watched Little Howard, which I'd recorded "for the DCs" instead.

"But the 3 best comedies on the BBC are Horrible Histories.."

Agree with Horrible Histories!

I much prefer Qi and Outnumbered for BBC comedy. I used to like My Family, but once Nick left, it all went down hill :-/ Can't stand Life of Riley, No Going Out or Miranda, and have no inclination to watch that Flynn thing. I'd rather eat razor blades with a ready salted crisps chaser.

Give me Being Human or Nurse Jackie although not really comedies or comedies on Channel 4 any day (Inbetweeners, anyone?)

BYITGG Summer Heights High had me in stitches! I've been watching Chris Lilley's new series "Angry Boys" online and it's just as good!

Andrewofgg · 16/06/2011 18:42

The best channel is 99. That's the one with the screen grey, the sound off, the plug out of the wall, and the radio on Classic FM.

diabolo · 16/06/2011 18:53

I like Outnumbered, but that's about it.

GabbyLoggon · 16/06/2011 19:47

yesbut...the bbc have had some great sitcoms over the yea. But they need a rest for two years. Stale.

nicespam · 16/06/2011 19:49

classic fm not usually a laugh riot though is it andrew? Grin

after dissing not going out, last night's was hilarious, lee mack does try to to be eric morcambe alot though

Eddieshead · 16/06/2011 19:51

Outnumbered would be the only one I'd watch. That little girl is brilliant.

Andrewofgg · 16/06/2011 19:52

Agreed, nicespam, but if I want laughter I will not usually find that on the box either. Although I understand that the Party Political Broadcasts can be quite entertaining if you like amateur comedians. They also save power (the off-switch again) and make a great aphrodisiac - whoever you are with sex has to be better.

MsTeak · 16/06/2011 19:53

you could, er, switch off the telly?

nicespam · 16/06/2011 19:54

well yes but you can't have sex everynight and i shouldn't really use that for laughter, dp would take it the wrong way Wink

kerala · 16/06/2011 19:54

We have just discovered Gavin and Stacey. Brilliant.
