what would you think?
I asked him what time he needed to be in , he said 8pm
I told him he needed to get off home then .

Didn't he have a watch on?

ggirl · 14/06/2011 22:16

don't think he can tell the time yet anyway

He can't tell the time at 8yrs old?

It doesn't make sense how he has to be in at 8pm then? Perhaps he had a mobile or something?

Either way, my 8yr old is in at 7.30 on a school night and 8pm latest on a weekend.

Having said that, he only plays across the road on the green.

Sad. Doesn't sound good.

MoonGirl1981 · 14/06/2011 22:20

Blimey! My (nearly) 8 year old is in bed at 8pm on a school night!

When you say you feel sorry for him, do you mean because his parents will give him a bollocking for being late?

dementedma · 14/06/2011 22:25

lots of 8 year olds can't tell the time, many youngsters and teens don't have watches any more as they use their mobiles. In my household of 5, I am the only one who wears a watch!!
Last year I was trying to arrange a play date for DS (then 8) and his friend D. D is not the very academic and struggles, so DS looks out for him and helps him. Increasingly annoyed at Ds inability to turn up in time, i was getting frustrated and DS leapt to his friend's defence saying "he can't tell the time properly. He can only do o'clocks and half pasts"
"so what does he do the rest of the time?" I questioned, to which Ds witheringly replied, "the rest of the time, he has me"

worraliberty · 14/06/2011 22:28

Aww that's so sweet dementedma Grin

I just assumed the could because it's part of school work from about year 1

ggirl · 14/06/2011 23:14

i felt sorry that his parents didn't think he'd be better off getting into bed at that time of night .
I wasn't making a point about him not being able to tell the time. Just that it is too late for a wee lad to be turning up at the door .

Oh I see. Well 8.20pm is late indeed but if he'd been in at the time he'd been given...well I don't see a problem.

My 8yr old doesn't go to bed til 8.30pm, but then again, he doesn't have to get up til 8am so it's all relevant I suppose.

And you're right, he shouldn't be knocking on doors at that time of night.

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/06/2011 23:21

def far too late- my dc 8.5 is in bed asleep by 7.30

pipandpet · 14/06/2011 23:22

I agree OP - his parents should be tucking him up in bed by 8pm.

Demented that is the sweetest thing I've heard for a long time.

Fifis25StottieCakes · 14/06/2011 23:27

Loads of kids were still out tonight late. It must have been due to the weather being nice. Mine didnt come in til 8.30 and they are 7 and 9. They normally come in at 8pm but everyone was allowed to stay out for some reason so i let them out longer.
