Oh Pinot I love pease pudding and as I am shopping tomorrow will pick up loads some. Takes me back to my north-eastern childhood.

One of my treats used to be a savaloy and pease pudding bap - heaven.

Hulababy · 14/06/2011 19:34

I eat tinned sweetcorn, baked beans and mushy peas.
I also get tinned salmon and tuna at times.
I also have tinned soup, tinned lentils and also tinned mixed beans - latter is ideal for making a chilli.

catinthehat2 · 14/06/2011 19:35

gristle!!!!

how dare you

tasty, cured ham pink (not bright), gristle-free thank you VERY much,

Big in Hawaii - check out the United States and territories section

catinthehat2 · 14/06/2011 19:36

transport @ £10 trip is excessive I agree

SheCutOffTheirTails · 14/06/2011 19:36

Although maybe pease pudding and pease porridge aren't the same thing. Confused

I'm not sure I can bear to go back to a work where I don't know what that pease porridge rhyme is about.

organictwat · 14/06/2011 19:37

mmm tinned processed peas, yum I eat them cold with salad cream.

catinthehat2 · 14/06/2011 19:39

FRAY BENTOS STEAK PIE!!!!

you know NOTHING organictwat Grin

puff pastry in te top of the tin, mixing deliciously with the meaty steak sauce which occasioanlly had a peice ofmeat in it (though they tended to collect at one side)

muminthecity · 14/06/2011 19:40

I love tinned sweetcorn cold from the tin, has to be Green Giant Salad Crisp though, nothing else comes close.

I also eat tinned tomatoes, kidney beans, baked beans, lentils, tuna and salmon.

I'd eat tinned peas at a push, but prefer frozen - never buy them fresh though, too much of a faff to prepare!

organictwat · 14/06/2011 19:41

Really? pastry in a tin?! How do you cook it?

OP posts:
Chandon · 14/06/2011 19:42

I have an odd fondness for tinned mushrooms, tinned pineapple and tinned peas. Especially if the peas are mixed with deadly sweet baby carrots.

70s child, moi?

Spagbolagain · 14/06/2011 19:43

Mmmmmmmm tinned pears with carnation milk

PinotGrigiosKittens · 14/06/2011 19:44

YY to pease pudding being North East! My Pop was from Northumberland

Please everyone try it - it's amazing!

bigTillyMint · 14/06/2011 19:44

Tinned tomatoes, baked beans, kidney beans, other beans, lentils, chick peas, sweetcorn, water chestnuts,
Tinned soup
Tinned tuna, salmon.
Tinned fruit salad, peaches, mandarins.

Barf at mushy peas or pease pudding thoughGrin

EggyAllenPoe · 14/06/2011 19:44

take off the top, and pop the can (complete with pie, pobviously) in th oven.

wait until the pasty has gone brown and flaky on top..

serve yourself some dirty food.

PinotGrigiosKittens · 14/06/2011 19:45

pease porridge is the same thing, just with more water to make it sloppier. Yummo!

usualsuspect · 14/06/2011 19:45

Back in the 70s you could buy tinned sausages(not hot dog ones) they were kind of encased in lard

bloody lovely they were

EggyAllenPoe · 14/06/2011 19:45

i thought the pease pottage rhyme was about The Black Death?

takeonboard · 14/06/2011 19:45

Grin @ tinned musrooms!
I agree that tinned veg sound pretty grim, I'm not even tempted to try them..........I do eat tinned pulses though as soaking dried kidney beans/lentils etc is such a faff, and of course couldn't live without baked beans.
I suppose its a matter of what your taste buds are used to, my gran used to buy tinned fruit but my mum never did and I haven't eaten it since my gran died, it was probably all people could get during the war.

catinthehat2 · 14/06/2011 19:45

You've seen the flat tins?

lid off, and cook it all in the tin, the pastry sheet is directly under the lid

ashamedandconfused · 14/06/2011 19:46

we used to have spam, chips and pease pudding for school dinners!

love PP but not had it in years - is a northern thing, yes?

anyway,on another matter , have you all seen this

sandwich in a tin

now that would be truly gross

Deaddei · 14/06/2011 19:46

Dirty food
Love it.
The soggy pastry underneath, the occasional unidentifiable bit of animal lurking in the gravy....gorgeous.

BillComptonstrousers · 14/06/2011 19:48

Mmmmm I had a rather delightful ham and pease pudding bun the other day.
It's got to be eaten with ham and smothered in a bun, sliced bread at a push...

organictwat · 14/06/2011 19:49

ashamedandconfused - I was just a bit sick in my mouth!
