I've quit 40 jobs, they are beneath me

This was said by 23yr old Maria Mercer who thinks she's too good to do anything. I'm utterly shocked especially in the same article there's a woman going round with a placard "please give me a job" so desperate for work when this Maria thinks she's too good to be a law clerk, hairdresser, office work ( these were her previous jobs) she's landed 39 positions.
AIBU to be in utter utter shock at this woman?

In 5 years, one of which (this one) is being spent as a housewife I've had 6 jobs.
2 were short term contracts, 2 I worked for over a year another I couldn't stand so left after a month & one (working at a certain Zoo in Central London) I last 8 hours in Blush I leave that one off my CV.

However I'd probably applied for over 500 jobs in 5 years...cannot believe she's had 40!

KatieWatie · 14/06/2011 16:13

If she's continually working then good luck to her, why shouldn't she strive for something better?

If she's just quit to sign on then that's outrageous, but surely she can't sign on if she's quit of her own accord?

So in summary IDK

pumpernickel10 · 14/06/2011 16:16

Yes she's quit to sign on

xstitch I must know... morally whatnow?

MackerelOfFact · 14/06/2011 16:58

She also admits to lying on her CV though so I doubt being offered 40 jobs really proves anything.

'morally repugnant googoo. My now XH left me and being a single mother didn't fit with the 'moral ethos' of the company.

I have only ever quit a job to go to another job, I have never chosen to be jobless.

Oh dear verity There is something quite satisfying about filing. Having the files all tidied up etc.

GooGooGadget · 14/06/2011 21:52

fuck a duck xstitch there's a treasure right there. Shock

xstitch · 14/06/2011 21:56

When I came back from mat leave when I was working full time they hadn't done filing once when I was away. I had six months filing to do and got a bollocking for it not being done yet. Had been in the door about 20min. I'm good but I'm not that good.

sunshineandbooks · 14/06/2011 21:57

She can't be signing on. If you quit your job you are ineligible for unemployment benefits for 6 months.

The whole reason this is 'news' is because it's unusual.

Totally unsurprised it's in the Daily Mail. Hmm

GabbyLoggon · 14/06/2011 22:00

amazing to get 40 job offers

OpusProSerenus · 14/06/2011 22:01

Says it all that Daily Fail thinks she is a "Wakeup call for the Workshy"! WTF?!

xstitch · 14/06/2011 22:02

It was the headline that pissed me off opus. I have, I admit, been rather crabbit recently.

TBH, I would say the girl in question was workshy, otherwise she would have stuck at the jobs even though they were boring.

pumpernickel10 · 14/06/2011 22:13

Actually I read it in the daily star me very bad :(
Blame my dad it's his paper :)

Obviously there is at least one lie here - she lies on her CV (so possibly is lying about the jobs), and she wouldnt be allowed to sign on if she had quit her job (so not workshy if she was continuously working). Moving company for a better wage or a change is not a crime, although this seems excessive. And its the daily fail, so they will have put their own particular spin on it.

I feel sorry for her, it must be tiring to constantly have to learn a new job, with different people in a different area and never settle in. But with the increase in short term, temporary jobs its not surprising. If she has been working as a temp for some time, you could easily do 40 different jobs in a short space of time.

He buys it for the horse racing before you tell me to flog him

She wouldn't be able to sign on. I left a 'job' during the training as I couldn't hack it emotionally (care home work with the elderly, specialising with those who had dementia :() and the job office kicked up a stink when I left it.

I've had 7 paid jobs since May 2008, 4 voluntary positions and 6 months of being officially unemployed. I've just had six weeks out of work whilst looking for a new job and am starting my 8th job later this week Blush

I don't understand how, if she does list all of her jobs on her CV, they all fit within a couple of pages? And how does she describe leaving her jobs, surely "Didn't work out" can't be on there for each of them?! She must be lying an awful lot on her CV if employers are finding her desireable as I can't expect she has much experience in anything in particular, any drive for any one subject or many qualifications?
