To think Jack Wills clothing should only be worn by those under 30?

Or at what age should one consider oneself too old to wear it?

Anyone over 20 looks silly in Jack Wills stuff. The logo is a load of pants. Could they not have made it a bit fanicer? The block lettering is so boring.

"it looks like its selling clothes for people who want to try and look like they go to public school but don't" - I definately agree with that. I also think it is for kids who don't know anything about fashion so wear the JW "uniform" to be safe.

manicinsomniac · 14/06/2011 14:51

Hmmm, I don't know.

I'm 27 and the vast majority of my casual wardrobe is a mixture of Jack Wills, Aubin and Wills, Hollister, Abercrombie, Superdry, Fatface, Soulcal, Ralph Lauren and the like.

I don't feel like I dress too young. It's similar type of stuff to what most of my similar aged and older work colleagues wear casually.

But I will admit to buying it all from ebay or outlets because I can't afford it full price but live in a home counties village, work in a private school and want to look like I can afford it - now that's what's pathetic!

I am (just!) 25 and never heard of it... Am I missing out on something??

TattyDevine · 14/06/2011 14:55

To be fair ManicInsomniac I doubt you look like mutton at 27, its very unlikely! Enjoy the rest of your 20's, sod em.

AngryFeet · 14/06/2011 14:57

Ha ha I have seen a few 40 somethings wearing Hollister or Jacks Wills hoodies at the school gates recently. Each to their own I guess but I did think Hmm

Baronetdawntigga · 14/06/2011 14:57

YANBU and the website takes a stupidly long time to load.

'I'm 27 and the vast majority of my casual wardrobe is a mixture of Jack Wills, Aubin and Wills, Hollister, Abercrombie, Superdry, Fatface, Soulcal, Ralph Lauren and the like.'

What age group do you teach?

PanicMode · 14/06/2011 14:59

According to an article I read in Retail Week, JW's whole marketing strategy started with only wanting to sell to public school children still at school and then later at university, hence opening in cities like Eton, Durham, Oxford etc.

So I think that anyone who wears it beyond about 24 looks deeply sad and try hard tbh. And in any case, it's completely lost its original cachet in public schools (so I believe according to friends with kids in the 'system')

manicinsomniac · 14/06/2011 15:06

Puffin - 7-13 year olds. Why?

GrungeBlobPrimpants · 14/06/2011 15:11

14 is too old, according to my 15yo DD. It is SOOOOOOO ooovaaaaahhhhh

EvenLessNarkyPuffin · 14/06/2011 15:20

Because 14/15 year old girls would tear you to shreds over it ^ Grin
You're probably safe with your lot.

Trills · 14/06/2011 15:20

That is indeed a very silly skirt Tatty. And Tigga is right, the website takes forever to load.

I don't think there needs to be an age limit, there is already a sense limit on wearing anything that is obviously from one of these brands (ie anyone with any sense woulnd't want it to be obvious).

FreudianSlipper · 14/06/2011 15:25

i am officially old as i have no idea what you are talking about :o

Hullygully · 14/06/2011 15:33

My dh is OVER 50 and he has a JW shirt. It was after we had spent over one hour in their poxy shop while dd and her friends shrieked around and frankly we lost all reason and were brainwashed.

Everyone laughs at him. And they are very slim fitting, so anyone without a teenagers flat tum, looks even paunchier.

heh heh

manicinsomniac · 14/06/2011 15:34

Oh ok, I see!

I don't wear it to school though. Bar the odd ralph lauren shirt the rest of it is my casual stuff.

I'm not aware of it all having become less fashionable with teens. Still seems to be the uniform of the senior public schools areound here.

tattydevine - thanks I will! :D

argghh · 14/06/2011 15:40
