To despise 2-cheek kisses?

My SIL and BIL both do the kissing on both cheeks thing and I really hate it. It makes me cringe. If we were French/Spanish/Italian or whatever mediterranean culture then it wouldn't bother me, but we're not. It makes me feel like I'm part of some yuppie-type gang when I see them. I have tried many times to avoid, but they always always grab both my shoulders and shove their faces right in mine so it's not like I can duck away after the first cheek.
I have suffered it for years, but now they have started doing it to my toddler too and I would hate for him to copy.....urrgghh. AIBU or just petty? Doesn't seem to bother my DH.

ROFL!!!

My In-Laws area all into the 2 kiss thing. I don't know my left from my right, so even trying to remember which is first gets me flustered. I usually kiss my FIL and BIL on the lips because it goes wrong (though Granyy In-Law is the worst!).

How do I tell them to back off without causing offence? I've put up with it for 23 years!

Bloody hell- I'm going to show this thread to my 'forrin' DH who doesn't seem to understand where I get my kiss- induced sweaty- palmed anxiety from. I live in his home country and I hate any hellos or goodbyes, my biggest problem being that my nerves seem to make me over-enthusiastically pounce on people resulting in head butting drama. I though I'd fixed this by holding on to shoulders, but I've recently found out that that's considered very intimate. Grrrrr!!

Hully-It's always the quiet ones!

I usually pretend to be ill and stay at home! Then I'm really ashamed when the kids all bring hand made 'get well soon' cards!

Mumcentreplus · 13/06/2011 21:25

hahaha..aww@rach...I feel your pain although my problem is it's deliberate!!

I have an uncle (married to my mum's aunt) who tries to get the lips every time!... I have to literally dodgehim and stylishly move my face so he gets the cheek..but he's a tryer!! ..he's caught my sister off guard a few times bluddy hilarious!!

So glad to see it's not just me then!

Might have to try the arse-grab. On my SIL Grin

I might go for the arse grab too!

But really, how do you stop it?????

Yolonokiss · 08/11/2014 11:15

I hate cheek kissing so much that I always freeze and end up having the other person smacking their cheek bones or jaw into mine resulting in TMJ like pain for days. Am I the only one/ can this do damage?

JADS · 08/11/2014 12:42

I used to go to school in Brussels and a single kiss on the cheek was fine. It felt normal.

My late fil was a cheek kisser with the hand on your upper arms in a vice like grip thing but for some reason only with me. I hated it. It felt so awkward. I used to wait in the car and dodge into the house at the last minute to avoid it. My mil used to follow suit but no longer does it thank goodness.

I much prefer to hug my mates which is ultimately more touchy feely than a cheek kiss. I guess I am a weirdo but YANBU!

just watching come dine with me, the greetings at the door always fascinates me Ha!
If I was on that show it would be a very definite hand outstretched hand shake, not even keen on kissing anyone but MY immediate family and my best mate!, Im not a one to follow the crowd, Im sure most people hate it!
Im sure this whole celebrity culture of the last 15 or so years has started it!
A good handshake is all you need in my opinion, who wants all those germs!
I like good old fashioned etiquette!!
