to not like going out with my brother

Tonight I went out my brother and 2 sisters. My brother is 19 and basically he always turns it into who can drink the most competition with my youngest sister who is 22. They had 4 bottles of red wine between them and were both absolutely plastered. Before he was old enough to go out we used to have long chats but now he just seems to hijack it and turn it into a drinking competition.

Drink problem ....

leares · 10/06/2011 23:39

YABU he's nor forcing your sister to drink that much although it does sound a lot. I've seen a lot of siblings enter into I can drink more than you contests which I do find odd but at the end of the day its their choice

inappa · 10/06/2011 23:46

I know he's not forcing her but he does seem to hijack it and turn it into a wine drinking contest.

it sounds like typical 19yo behaviour to be honest, he wants to get one over on his sister. My brothers only 11 but I bet he has a similar attitude when he's the same age.

likale · 11/06/2011 00:09

Agree with the rest, he sounds like most 19yos and if you don't like it then do go out with him.

yikert · 11/06/2011 00:26

Don't be so boring he and his sister went out and got hammered they are 19 and 22 so it is perfectly understandable and a lot of people would have done the same at their age. If it bothers you that much then why don't you stay at home and leave them to it.

iscream · 11/06/2011 06:37

Sorry about your brother and sister being asses. Hopefully they will grow up soon. If you are not drunk yourself, drunken slurring people are such a bore, and disgusting to be around.

Keep talking to them, you sound like a decent older sister looking out for her family.

YANBU. My youngest bro is like this. Ruined a family occasion recently by having to go to hospital the night before due to drink. He's 21. Hopefully they will grow out of it.

BrianBadonde · 11/06/2011 08:31

YANBU. My younger brothers can't go out without getting absolutely hammered. The eldest one becomes abusive to friends, family and complete strangers. He is embarrassing to be around. One of the many reasons we haven't drank together in years. In fact its put me off alcohol and I rarely drink and can't remember the last time I got pissed. Its his 30th in September and I'm dreading it. I might just send him a card with a twenty in it and leave him and his pals to it.

gerafle · 11/06/2011 09:14

YANBU they are both young but that does sound like a ridiculous amount of alcohol and it could do him harm if he does it regularly. People who are hammered and boring to people who aren't drunk so I can understand your frustration.

bned · 11/06/2011 09:49

YANBU I hate it when people get drunk off their heads, although they are both still quite young but I would be worried if this level of drinking is a regular occurence.

LittleMissFlustered · 11/06/2011 10:00

How big is the age gap between you and your youngest sibling? If its a fair few years you're bound to have different views on what makes a night out enjoyable. I'm not saying you're unreasonable to dislike it, but neither are your brother and sister to enjoy it. Horses for courses and all that.

Pumpernickel10 · 11/06/2011 10:17

Same with my bro and his girlfriend they actually disgust me if we go out thank fuck they live 250 miles away
