having just read a post that stated "and all that london offers". What is it you londoners feel the rest of us are missing out on. I lived in London for 5 years, children born there, but moved away and was wondering what it was that you think the rest of us are missing out on.

Oh yes and all the 24 hour shops you need, even on public holidays.

crazynanna · 11/06/2011 00:05

I can walk past my beloved Arsenal every day...and rub the guns for luck Grin

FreudianSlipper · 11/06/2011 00:06

beautiful parks, commons, buildings, history all around, fantastic shops, markets, restaurants, bars, cafes, amazing museums and art galleries, great underground system, the diversity of cultures london is fantastic i would not want to live anywhere else adn on a hot summer day it buzzes like nowhere else

LineRunner · 11/06/2011 00:06

Grasscutter I fucking love Newcastle as the best city of all time ever.

BoiledFrog · 11/06/2011 00:07

I live 30 mins on the tube from London but hardly ever go tbh, it does have lots of good free things to do, but it's all just such a faff and so crowded. I have a feeling the best that London offers costs an arm and a leg, which is why I'm not that fussed.

usualsuspect · 11/06/2011 00:09

I live in Leicester ..you want multicultural we have it ,right here

usualsuspect · 11/06/2011 00:09

oh and its not so expensive .....

BoiledFrog · 11/06/2011 00:10

I love Newcastle, stayed in a hotel with a view of the bridge if you stood on tiptoes to look out of a tiny window was fantastic, an attic room, well spooky. we went to see radiohead and had a kebab in a naan bread, bet you can't get that in London Grin.

swanker · 11/06/2011 00:11

London has much to offer, but I wouldn't live there unless I was a millionnaire, and could live in K&C.

crazynanna · 11/06/2011 00:11

Usual's right,Leicester is v. multicultural.
I lived there as a kid,and I was in a Steel Band at the community centre that made the UN look racist Grin

GrassCutter · 11/06/2011 00:12

I lived in london from early 20's until early 30's...i think you reach a point in your life when you want more, and you canfind that elsewhere......

OP posts:
swanker · 11/06/2011 00:12

Oh my goodness... usual- are you a particularly 'concerned citizen'???

likale · 11/06/2011 00:12

London has more than anywhere else in the country by a mile, the range of bars/clubs/museums etc are miles ahead of anywhere else in the country.

LDNmummy · 11/06/2011 00:13

Umm, sorry but it is not quite the same. I know people from leicester who attended my uni in London who think London is more diverse.

What exactly is your definition of diversity?

usualsuspect · 11/06/2011 00:13

All that school angst in London ...fuck that

livetolaugh · 11/06/2011 00:13

I lived in the NE for 2 years and didn't like it very much. Weather was terrible and not enough to do. I liked Durham and Newcastle though. I am also very proud that my son was born in Newcastle. I love the Geordies

usualsuspect · 11/06/2011 00:18

err Asian ,Chinese,Caribbean.Somalian,Polish,Easten european

Muslim,hindu,jewish,

swanker · 11/06/2011 00:19

Ha- I was a governor at a 1-form intake primary where the pupils had 45 languages between them... nowhere near London or Leicester.

backwardpossom · 11/06/2011 00:21

Pollution? Wink

LDNmummy · 11/06/2011 00:23

Example: I love Ethiopian food, there are countless Ethiopian restaurants in London.

How many in Leicester exactly?

There are places in London where you can buy exotic foods you will never find in a supermarket or normal market such as Kangaroo or Ostrich Biltong.

Shops where you can buy all sorts of foreign fabrics, jewellery and beauty products are on every local highstreet and vary greatly.

You can walk down the street and will always undoubtedly pass someone of a different cultural background to the person you passed the day before.

Its just more diverse, fact.

crazynanna · 11/06/2011 00:24

I would miss the cement if I left.

backwardpossom · 11/06/2011 00:25

I love London, in fairness, but I'd never live there. It's fine for a long weekend or whatever (I live in the north of Scotland) but couldn't be doing with it all of the time.

usualsuspect · 11/06/2011 00:26

Nah .not having that

You can buy ostrich burgers in Leicester market

Polish supermarkets aplenty

Its just not so poncy Wink

Try the golden Mile in Leicester

LadyWellian · 11/06/2011 00:26

My job, mainly.

igggi · 11/06/2011 00:27

I have seen ostrich and kangaroo in supermarkets in Scotland.
Could live without them though.
I bet for all the range of options (which I don't deny), most people drink in the same pubs, eat in the same restaurants etc.
Sometimes it takes a tourist to appreciate a city!
