What? Why the snide comments? I was in M and S today and think Per una has some lovely stuff. Ok, it's a bit middle of the road and I don't actually own any, but I'm about to move into the M and S demographic (bit old for Topshop, too short for Zara, too cheap for Jaegar) and, perhaps, need to have it explained to me why I can't wear it.

I LOVE M and S and think it's pretty much the best shop ever (ahhh, if Waitrose sold clothes). I cried, yes, actually cried when I came back from two years in a deprived part of Africa and first entered the food section.

I wear Per Una skirts the floor length maxi ones! Im a trendy 46 year old too.

turdass · 11/06/2011 19:03

I just looked at the ASOS dresses in size 16 and they were all either mini or maxi dresses and there were only 9. Def not for a fat old biddy like me.

thanks shandy! a colleague in her late 20s/early 30s wears it and always looks immaculate, as I plan to smarten up my working wardrobe I thought I'd give it a try
but she's about a size 6 and good looking, she could probably rock anything (even per una)

ninah · 11/06/2011 19:09

ouch at 'trendy'

sungirltan · 11/06/2011 20:59

urgh to next - so watered down fashion and mumsy - euw! used to work for them (shudders)

generally i like m&s - buy loads for dd in there and rate their underwear. i wouldn't buy my clothes (i'm 31) in there as i feel i'm still a bit young but often see nice things. per una on the other hand is just hilarious! i would love to see the people who buy those animal print trousers!!

razzlebathbone · 11/06/2011 21:49

Per Una is actually offensive.

JoniRules · 11/06/2011 21:51

This is horrible.

Per una is just awful, I cannot fathom why a respected and reputable shop like M&S still stocks this stuff. Obviously it must be popular and successful or they wouldn't have it. But who would buy it?

JoniRules · 11/06/2011 21:53

Or what about this

It doesn't seem very nice at the moment, I was going to link to the sort of skirt I like and couldn't find one.
However just as well everyone likes different things or clothes would be like a uniform!

KenDoddsDadsDog · 11/06/2011 22:14

Even seeing Per Una make me laugh now because of the thread featuring a 'depressed' handbag.

sorry but why on earth are you worried about clothes opinions of people on here, whom you will never meet? great for emotional advice ec but why care about their opinion of a clothing line? if you like it, wear it

Is this not quite nice? I could imagine someone like Kate Middleton in this.

Daenerys · 11/06/2011 23:41

I find some posts quite funny. "i wouldn't be seen dead in that!" i haven't had anyone inspect my tags yet and i don't know why brands matter so much. I wear what suits me, i don't care if it's jaeger, primark or m&s.

agree that some of the clothes linked to on this thread are awful . However, I am a fan of their Roma jeans - as I struggle to get trousers to fit and these are perfect for me.
As a couple of others have said, it's hard to find clothes which aren't to old/young when you are pushing 50. I've had some Per Una tops which I love, particularly mock-layer and vest with sheer overtops.

tissuesplease · 12/06/2011 21:44

yes but Jajas why would anyone in RL care whats mumsnetters thought about clothing ??? surely one takes fashion advice from those who dress well generally, yet on here everyone is anonymous! quite amusing yes but complete waste of time hence my post. anyhow will let you all enjoy

Lipstickgal · 12/06/2011 21:47

Before maxi skirts came back into fashion it was the only place to get them. I love the cut of their cord maxi skirts and like their plain block colour unfussy stuff. It is possible to find some nice items! I hate their mad drama teacher efforts and generally their Spring/Summer collections where they go nuts with the pastels. Peach and Aqua......me thinks not.

aye LeQ Next is shoddy these days. I had forgotten all about Jigsaw. Once upon a time they did fab basics, then they went all bits of lace here and frayed hem there and I lost interest. Must look them up again.
