address each other as "ladies"?

"Come on ladies..." etc

it's so fucking perky

it makes my teeth itch

OP posts:
uselesscamhs · 07/06/2011 10:57

or ''folks''

saidthespiderwithahorridsmile · 07/06/2011 10:58

"folks" bothers me less

but it is still odious

How is 'ladies' infantilising? Is 'gentleman' infantilising to men?

It's just polite, if a little old-fashioned.

'Yo cunts' is good.

I may start using 'commrades'.

BlooferLady · 07/06/2011 11:02

I say 'chaps'. Is that all right? Sort of self-mocking Woosterish jollity?

'Ladies' is gross. 'Girlies' is worse. Makes me think of women who yelp 'I'm a real girlie girl me!' as if a total inability to open a jar of Branston unassisted and a preoccupation with pink footwear is something to be admired

uselesscamhs · 07/06/2011 11:03

I know it's grim spiders Grin

I suspect that there is no collective noun for the female human which doesn't have some negative connotation or other Sad

MumblingRagDoll · 07/06/2011 11:03

I despise being called a lady...it's all so proper...re-enforcing crap about how a "lady" should behave.

Lets call each other comrades. Grin

HolyFail · 07/06/2011 11:05

I'm starting to say 'campers'

Morning campers!!!! Grin

TinyPawz · 07/06/2011 11:06

I thought the collective noun for us was "vipers"

Have I been wrong all this time??

MumblingRagDoll · 07/06/2011 11:06

Ah....I like vipers.

Afternoon vipers!

DoMeDon · 07/06/2011 11:08

I was told off for swaering t'other day - apparently it's not ladylike - I pointed out it's a good job I'm no fucking lady!

ComeAlongPond · 07/06/2011 11:10

Friends, romans, countrymen?

My dad refers to my sister and I as "the bombadier and the admiral". I am not sure what the collective would be, or indeed WHY he does it, but it is probably an improvement on "the rastafarian and the penguin's chuff" which is what he calls our brothers, or "scrumple and rumple" which is how he addresses his grandchildren. I suspect he is insane.

MumblingRagDoll · 07/06/2011 11:10

My sister shouts at me for sitting "like a man"

I only do it when I am in jeans and why tf should I sit like "a a"lady" when its not effing comfy and gives you veins.

ooohyouareawfulbutilikeyou · 07/06/2011 11:11

birds

cannydoit · 07/06/2011 11:11

i like comrades.

MumblingRagDoll · 07/06/2011 11:11

Friends, campers and Vipers! Lend me your mooncup.

MumblingRagDoll · 07/06/2011 11:12

We could have a combination of comrades and vipers...Vomrades.

katvond · 07/06/2011 11:14

Bitches I prefer

Finallyspring · 07/06/2011 11:16

'Ladies' has been reclaimed. Yes, it started off as genteel, became slightly ironic and is now ok. It's official

Anyway, what's the alternative ?

MumblingRagDoll · 07/06/2011 11:16

Since a bitch is a female dog...I don't want to be known as that. It's an insult made up by men. To bellittle women.

nenevomito · 07/06/2011 11:16

Hmm, not sure about Vomrades. It sounds like the act of being invaded by sick people.

Ooopsadaisy · 07/06/2011 11:17

Comrades!!!! - I love it! I work with a raging right winger - she'll just die!

"Morning Comrades!"

There'll be a mad scrabbling from behind her Daily Torygraph and she'll be found, hours later, clutching her signed photograph of hunky David Cameron in one hand and a phone in the other, with her finger on the 9.

MumblingRagDoll · 07/06/2011 11:17

Who says it's been reclaimed Finally? First I've heard. I reject the reclamation. Grin

MumblingRagDoll · 07/06/2011 11:18

lol babyheave!

Matekiddleton · 07/06/2011 11:19

Sisters?
(I prefer 'you lot')

BitOfFun · 07/06/2011 11:22

I hate 'You lot'. So rude and dismissive.
