the volume of traffic on here?

I am an HR Manager and I am looking at how we can celebrate length of service and properly reward loyalty at work. I am interested in having a little nosey in relation to the reward or recognition you get or don't get ( and should!)

Would anyone be happy to share? Don't need company names or anything personal.

i get an extra days holiday for every year worked upto a max of 30 days.
After 10 years service i got £100 worth of vouchers, at 15 years will get £125 worth of voucher and if i do 25 years i get £250 worth of vouchers.

What do you mean by "loyalty"?

Length of service, or some kind of outstanding effort or achievement?

At one of DHs schools they were presented with 100 baht per year of service over 4. Meaningless to the teachers, but pretty useful for the six day staff who cleaned, gardened and generally worked like slaves.

DH's work recognise long service at 15, 20 and 25 years with a celebratory evening, partners included, night in a hotel etc. I think the event runs once a year to mop up everyone.

Must admit it was a very good night. Each table was hosted by a senior exec. Much champagne, free bar, awards etc.

PLUS the employee gets to choose a gift (don't think they do cash because of the tax side of things). Cash value varies depending on length of service. DH got a Digital SLR camera.

My Dad got a certificate after 25 years. They spelled his name incorrectly, so whatever it is you do, get their name right!

In boom times we have sent staff on a spa weekend with their partner for 10 years service- approx £1000 which is only £100 a year,more recently it has been a cheaper version approx £500.We do this on the basis that a good employee can save money or increase turnover by far more than that amount per annum.

NB we are a small company 20 staff and only 3 have got to 10 years so far

Give them more money! Whatever you plan on will cost £££s so just cut out the middlemen and give your loyal hardworking staff cold hard cash.

EVERYONE likes cash.

Redexpat - thats horrible, and kind of why I'm asking. I intercepted a similar cheap and nasty certificate last week for 20 years service and was ashamed.

If I am honest it is the little things that count more than the big things.

For example, we are a team of 6 plus the boss.

Last Christmas 3 of us got Christmas cards and 3 of us didn't.

Ok, so it's a shitty bit of light cardboard. But it made me feel "Oh. Ok then. that's how it is, is it?"

There is also the issue of making everyone feel included. Sometimes I'm told and other times it's "Oh, didn't you know?"

I don't like the way these things are handled and try to concentrate on making sure that if ever I am in a position to influence these things myself (ha, bloody, ha), then I will do them differently.

I don't think there's any reward for loyalty but we get a uniform allowance for results which saves us having to buy specialist work clothes which saves £££££££.

DH got the chioce of a watch (not gold) or a carriage clock for 25 years. And two photos of the MD making the presentation.
