To be reeling in shock at what I have just paid for tickets in the odeon?

Shock

£44 for a family ticket and 1 extra child.

I don't even want to see jack black voicing a fucking panda that much! Certainly not £44 worth of much...

Ok so it's 3d. Big whoop! The bastards charged us £7.85 each and then had the brass neck to demand an extra quid each for 3d glasses.

Our local independent cinema charged £30 for the same number of tickets last week. Also 3d. And they didn't charge for the glasses cos we gave them back.

Fucking robbing bastards!

Shock

When did it get so pricey? We used to take dss a lot - am sure it was a fiver or so. Took my dds to see Tangled and it was £19 for 3. Was shocked at that. It costs £1 at sat am cinema at local independent. Think we will do new Disney film once a year and sat cinema at other times.

YANBU.

I took DS2 and his friends to the cinema for his birthday a couple of weeks ago. Two adults plus six children for about £25. Popcorn was 90p a tub and drinks were 60p each.

Thank goodness for independent cinema.

We paid £13.85 per ticket, this included £1 for the 3D specs).. x 4 adults. Shock!!! Wimbledon Odeon on a Friday night.

I love going to the cinema. I didn't go for years and only really started Gain when the dc arrived. it's fun. But not at that price.

Not bothered about 3d though - it just happened to the screening we could get to.

I can't figure out if cinema costs more than I did as kid or if my parents were just not misers more easy-going about the expense. Cinema was a weekly treat when I was a kid, but my kids only go once or twice a year.

BalloonSlayer · 05/06/2011 17:38

When I read the OP I thought 'voicing' was some bizarre perverted sexual practice that Jack Black was inflicting on some hapless panda.

It's bloody extortionate to go to the cinema nowadays, I nearly choked when we went to see Toy Story 3 which was the first time we'd been in ages!
me, dh and ds (aged 7) and it came to £24 just for the 3 tickets to get in. THEN they had the bloody nerve to say 'and that'll be £3 each for the 3d glasses so that was another £9.
Would have been nice to be able to have the choice to watch it in normal screen as opposed to crappy 3d, but there was no choice!
THink we'll be waiting for the dvd's of films we want to watch in future! Grin

So glad Odeon Newbies is on on a Wednesday in Dunfermline, at least that way with Orange Wednesday it's only £3.50. If one of my friends can't make it I always approach another mum in the line to see if they want to split the cost of a ticket. Has been a really nice thing to do during my maternity leave.

This is also a good web page to check - forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=606589&page=3
Kids films rarely come up (I think Gnomeo and Juliet was the last one) but a good way to get free tickets nonetheless.

We were going to go to the cinema (just me and the OH) around February time and then I saw the prices and decided we'd wait until the dvd came out instead. Never thought I'd turn into my dad Grin Mind you, things come out on dvd pretty quick these days.

We go about once a month to baby screening but until dd3 was born we went fortnightly to our local independent. Was £4 each. Only one film on but was better than the pub as I don't drink & dh would spend The £8 on beer!
Baby screening is £5 ish at a different cinema.

because the film industry loses so much money due to piracy this is just one way of them clawing back their money...
