The git gentleman has cut off all the branches and is trying to stuff them (unsuccessfully) in his green bin. I expect the trunk will be next but no idea about the roots He doesn't seem to have a tractor handy.....

I am LIVID. It was a really beautful tree. I asked what was wrong with it and he said it was getting too big and the roots were disrupting his drains. Arsehole! The tree was planted by the builders and like all the trees on our estate are on the edge of the boundary. I think the roots things is bollocks actually. Some people just don't ike trees and living things. I think these people fall in that class - their entire front garden is white pebbles.

So aibu to think he is a Telmarine tree hating vandal straight out of Prince Caspian?

It might look nice to you OP but you wouldn't have to live with it blocking your drains and growing under your foundation walls.

It is exactly because of busybody snoopers that I cut down any trees near any houses I develop to build - I know someone who cannot do anything with a 1/4 acre building plot behind their home - because the local counsellor has used her influence to have TPOs put on most of the trees.

if tree was 12ft tall and 12 ft from house reasoanble to remove general rule is nothing over 5metres tall within 5 metres of house tree roots can cause lots of damage and if in clay area the water they suck out can damage foundations but its a shame when pretty acer/mapes get cut down as some trees dont prune well ( or if pruned they just die slowly) you have no choice
