in drying my underwear in my back garden?

LifeIsButtercream · 31/05/2011 15:52

The sun finally came out! So I stuck some washing out on the rotary drier to dry, including some plain black Evans M&S knickers (nothing racy!)

Later a note popped through the door (didn't see who left it) and it read:

"Please do not dry underwear in the garden, it's not very nice to have to look at"

I was a bit Hmm

To clarify, my garden is has 6ft fences, and to see into it someone would have to be looking out of the top back windows of their house, and then at an angle (hard to explain, but basically it's not in view from other gardens - unless they are climbing the fence - or in view from anyone's lounge/downstairs rooms).

And I try to be discrete! I put pants on the 'inner' rows of the drier so they aren't spinning their crusty gussets around on the outside in full view of anyone who might be looking, and I usually put them sandwiched between other items.

AIBU? Confused

Just proves that the Wright show are a bunch of Knicker[thread] stealers.........

We live next to a church and I must admit I do take care on funeral days. We used have an actual knicks-down-for-funerals-alert, but have dropped it owing to too many misunderstandings.*

ahahahahaha! Brilliant.

Spuddybean · 02/06/2011 16:23

This has made me cry laughing. What type of nutbags are they?

I dry my crothless pants and fetish gear in the garden! I've never considered anyone looking at it.... positively or negatively.

Spuddybean · 02/06/2011 16:24

Haha - just read the 'knickers down for funerals' comment and for a second i took it completely out of context!!

porcamiseria · 02/06/2011 16:35

get a GIMP suit and hang in in pruod isolation

cobweb1979 · 02/06/2011 16:42

Blatherskite - isn't MrFilth about 3 foot tall? /not a CoF fan :D

This thread is awesome. I have a very tired baby who is refusing to sleep except on my lap today and this has kept me amused while stuck on the sofa.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 02/06/2011 16:45

Who the heck is Dani Filth? (do I want to know ...?)

PregolaLola · 03/06/2011 09:47

just seen it on the wright stuff too, looks like your famous OP, lets just hope they dont mention the crusty gussets !

ratspeaker · 03/06/2011 10:05

What bronze said is true
I had a relative living in the USA, the homeowners association forbid any washing from being dried outside, ironic that in a hot state they had a swimming pool but no washing line

emptyshell · 03/06/2011 10:12

I used to have a flat with shared washing lines out the back yard - my flat was the one with windows looking into the back yard. Neighbour used to leave his pants out there (well all of his laundry) for days, until it rained and he had to rewash it. I spent weeks looking at his boxers over the summer - didn't bother me.

Having said that - I do hang my smalls on the inside part of my rotary drier so the neighbours can't see - but I'm funny about other people seeing me pants.

Blatherskite · 03/06/2011 14:55

Have the Wright Stuff been and gone yet? I hate that gurning, pompous twit Angry

purpleknittingmum · 03/06/2011 18:32

barbarianoftheuniverse knicks down for a funeral! That has made me chuckle!!

PinkSchmoo · 03/06/2011 19:16

Could only be considered unreasonable if crotchless and peephole variety and you were in them at the time and lived next to an old peoples home - the old tickers mightn't take it.
PregolaLola - your nut job neighbour moved, post a wee description, surely there can't be 2 of these laundry freaks out there....

Blatherskite · 03/06/2011 20:20

Should be safe by now...

cobweb1979 Yes, he wasn't a lot taller than me and I'm only 5'1". Meant he was easy to muscle out of the way as we got past though. I can't stand CoF either which made it all the more sweet Grin (sorry to MrsH's DH)

LadyClariceCannockMonty Dani Filth is the 'singer' in a band called Cradle of Filth. You don't want to know :)

GoingLoopyLou · 03/06/2011 20:35

This thread has literally made me cry with laughter! (and I haven't yet got through it all)

OP you MUST take each of the above suggestions and do one each day, the naughty knickers on the line, the message pegged up etc.

Hilarious!

jennypenney · 03/06/2011 20:45

This is a brilliant thread Grin

I think the OP should get a t-shirt printed saying "My neighbour hates my laundry" and then wear it to the neighbourhood watch meetings.

OR

buy some lawn seed and grow a massive pair of grass pants on her lawn.

mummakaz · 03/06/2011 21:10

wtf Hmm everything goes on my washing line. Thongs, granny pants and DH's boxers. I don't give a shit it's only bloody underwear fgs it's not as if your hanging your dildo's out to dry Grin

TheFrogs · 03/06/2011 21:19

Brilliant!

A note like that would really bring out my childish side! Op, first I think you should get the biggest old pair of pants you can find, sew up the legs and voila! a nifty peg bag. Leave the peg bag on the line every day, along with one "unusual" item comfortably nestled between your normal kecks. Choose from items such as:

One of those towels embroidered with the word "Arse"
Maybe the accompanying "Face" towel somewhere to the right of it?
Naked bloke apron
Bag of sprouts (random)
Drinking hat
Snorkel

...well you get my drift, see how long you can keep it up for Grin

Fantastic idea about the peg bag Wink

NorksAreMessy · 03/06/2011 21:53

Thank you all for this BRILLIANT thread

The 'menstrual bunting' and 'knickers down for a funeral' have had me genuinely laughing out loud but just the whole idea that hanging washing is wrong in any way and that people have so little in their life that this matters to them is what makes this country bonkers and brilliant all in one go!

More of this sort of thing, please

Feefs1 · 03/06/2011 22:04

I was an au pair in America many moons ago, and all the girls were absolutely forbidden to hang washing outside... the surburban moms considered it to be very common indeed. Crazy.

ravenAK · 03/06/2011 22:10

I have that COF t-shirt. Somewhere... & yes, Dani is very teeny tiny, bless him.

My then neighbour once told me I was freaking her out by pegging out Totsbots. 'They look like dead rabbits!'

The trouble is, once she'd said it...they did. Grin

NellieForbush · 03/06/2011 22:16

Love the idea of a large message pegged to the line "Get a life" or similar.

OP You must have a suspicion of who it is....? How many people can see your smalls?

VivaLeBeaver · 03/06/2011 22:58

There is a village near me where no line drying is allowed, it's in all the house deeds. Would put me off buying a house there.
