ive never had a cold sore neither has he, nor anyone in the family

look it up and info on web seems to indicate that 1-3 weeks of contracting the virus symptoms appear.

what do you think?

do you think he may have cheated?

he was on a night out on the town with mates

Well, is it?

Bohica pour a double and dab a little on the offending area, drink the rest and you won't care that you've got a coldsore Grin

sounds like your chap has been doing some off-piste muff-diving OP

How long have you known him? The virus can be dormant for a very long time without any visible symptoms, is he run down at all? I honestly don't think it is evidence of cheating.

I'm sure I have read that initial infections can be quite nasty too.

I got my first coldsore aged 18 without ever having kissed someone with an active coldsore. Up to 80% of the population carry the virus but a lot of people don't show the symptoms unless they are under stress/ in poor health. I wouldn't worry.

confuddledDOTcom · 30/05/2011 21:46

I used to get them a lot as a child not had one for about 16 years, over half my life ago. OH gets them all the time. As the others say, don't worry about it.

EricNorthmansMistress · 30/05/2011 22:06

You have to have been exposed to the virus to contract a coldsore. You can't catch it from sharing glasses or towels. It has to be skin to skin

BUT

Although most people get an outbreak within 2-3 weeks of contracting it, some never get a sore, and some get one much later.

OP, there is a fair chance he kissed someone and contracted the virus. There is also a fair chance that he already had it. Why don't you ask him? It's a fair question.

The HPV virus can lay dormant in your brain for years and years and years until something triggers it and it comes back out and infects the same spot on the lips or wherever. I really doubt he caught it last week and it appears this week.

I never had a cold sore in my whole life - then during uni and exams one appeared out of nowhere on my lip. I graduated 5 years ago and in that time I have gotten married, had a baby lived life with stress but no sign of the cold sore.

Just because you've never seen your DH with a cold sore before, it doesn't mean he cheated on you last week. Learn some bloody Science.

face it. he cheated with a hoe. Dump him!

From the Mayo Clinic site:

'You get the first episode of herpes infection from another person who has an active lesion. Shared eating utensils, razors and towels, as well as kissing, may spread herpes simplex virus type 1. In addition, oral-genital contact may cause a genital form of herpes simplex virus type 1 infection.

Once you've had an episode of herpes infection, the virus lies dormant in the nerve cells in your skin and may emerge again as an active infection at or near the original site. You may experience an itch or heightened sensitivity at the site preceding each attack. Fever, menstruation, stress, fatigue and exposure to the sun may trigger a recurrence. '

Most people who get cold sores were infected before age 10.

I doubt that he has cheated and the cold sore has come out so quickly.

On a slightly different note, if he is in contact with a very new baby please ask him to be very careful, this virus can be very serious for them. I 'met' this lady via a baby loss support forum and she is working hard to raise awareness about this because she lost her own baby to the virus. www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-1081076/Did-I-kill-baby-kiss-How-anguished-mother-didnt-discover-danger-common-cold-sore-virus-late-.html
