Im in two minds. I don't actually think she will sit for hours on it, she occasionally looks at cbeebies website etc, on the lap top but is bored after about half hour. Her older sister has one going begging and i could buy it from her so i wont be forking out on a new one or anything. Do you think she will get much from it? Are there any good games for that age range? If im honest, DD is quite young for her age so the more challenging games might be boring for her. To be honest, im running out of ideas for presents and this seems like an easy cop out option.

I have got my DD one for her 6th birthday next week, like you it is secondhand so did not cost a fortune.

Could anyone recommend some good games? Someone mentioned a maths one? Suitable for a 6 year old. Thanks (don't mean to hijack your thread OP, but you might be interested too?).

My DD is wanting the doggie one - but will be keen to hear about age appropriate maths ones too

My nephew got a second hand one for his birthday and he loves it. On the other hand a friends daughter has had to be banned as she got addicted to it and it was affecting her behaviour.

DS1 (5) got his DS as a bribe incentive for not wearing and wetting pajama pants. Worked like a dream. He is now pretty much dry at night and doesn't bother is much in the day Grin

I've paid £50 for the one we're getting. That is the trade in value for it. So it sounds a good deal.

My 2 have dsi's, i googled how to make the cards so i dont have to buy the games, illegal i know but they have 30 games each for the cost of £12 each Shock

Some of the games are educational and i think it helps with dd 2 who has concentration problems. Even the teacher at her school said she agreed with it when i showed her some of the games she was using.

We got one for ds's 6th birthday with great reservations. BUT he told us that he was the only child in his class to not have one, we dont want to make him different.

Got to say, i was ready to severaly limit the use as i dont like them at all. BUT hes just not bothered! He would rather be out in the garden and just isnt a "sit still" kinda kid.

Ds got one for his 6th virthday. he is allowed to play it for an hour on Fridays after school if he behaves well that week, and on long journeys. Occasionally, if he has been exceptionally good, he can have it for an hour (or over the weekend). He's had it for 6 months, only has two games for it which he still loves as he hasnt exhausted them yet.

Like anything, if you limit use and you, as the adult, are the one deciding when and what she plays, I see no problem.

an hour or less over the weekend, that was meant to say.

Damn my crap wino's typing Grin
