That friggin Bruno Mars one...today I'm not doing anything...

"The Lazy Song"

Today I don't feel like doing anything Hmm
I just wanna lay in my bed
Don't feel like picking up my phone
So leave a message at the tone
'Cause today I swear I'm not doing anything

I'm gonna kick my feet up
Then stare at the fan
Turn the TV on, throw my hand down my pants (gross) Envy
Nobody's gonna tell me I can't

I'll be lounging on the couch,
Just chillin' in my snuggie SNUGGIE??[wtf]
Click to MTV, so they can teach me how to dougie
'Cause in my castle I'm the freaking man (as if being a man gives him some extra special right to be a lazy bastard)
Oh, oh

Tomorrow I'll wake up, do some P90X
Meet a really nice girl, have some really nice sex
And she's gonna scream out: 'This is Great' Shock
(Oh my god, this is great)
(What? Is he going to shag her right away?? Not even get to know her?) Hmm
Yeah

I might mess around, get my college degree
I bet my old man will be so proud of me
But sorry pops, you'll just have to wait (Well then you'll end up in Macdonalds my son) Grin
Oh, oh

Yes I said it
I said it
I said it 'cause I can

Today I don?t feel like doing anything
I just wanna lay in my bed
Don?t feel like picking up my phone
So leave a message at the tone
'Cause today I swear I'm not doing anything

No, I ain't gonna comb my hair (scruffy and he thinks he'll get some girl in bed on the first meeting?? Hmm)
'Cause I ain't going anywhere
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, oh

I'll just strut in my birthday suit (BOAK)
And let everything hang loose (DOUBLE BOAK)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah-eah

Oh
Today I don?t feel like doing anything
I just wanna lay in my bed
Don?t feel like picking up my phone
So leave a message at the tone
'Cause today I swear I'm not doing anything

So AIBU? Or does this idiot need a good talking to?

Isn't it ironic? My dh sings it all the time- he's well adjusted, nearly forty, is successful in a busy job and absolutely bushed at the moment. It's a bit of wishful thinking about quiet days and in no way suggests that he wants to escape life with two children and one on the way! Well - not permanently Wink

TigerseyeMum · 30/05/2011 12:06

Exactly Hormone, that's why we sing it at work, when we are half way through a 12 hour shift!

Any teenager that used the song as a blueprint for their life has greater problems imo.

worraliberty · 30/05/2011 12:07

Bruno was born in Hawaii and his parents were Filipino and Puerto Rican descent.

worraliberty · 30/05/2011 12:08

My God look at the amount of "AIBU to do nothing today" type threads...perhaps those lazy days are down to those rotten singers on the radio Shock

Psammead · 30/05/2011 12:09

What on earth is P90X?

No idea who Bruno Mars is, but I quite fancy a day in my dressing gown tbh.

Hormoneoverload · 30/05/2011 12:09

But anyway-appreciate op recording the lyrics-takes me back to reading smash hits when I was a teen having the occasional lazy day!

TigerseyeMum · 30/05/2011 12:10

I am in my dressing gown and have so far done nothing.

Livin the dream.

SoFluffyImGonnaDie · 30/05/2011 12:10

Its a home exercise system - so clearly he plans to do something with his day :)

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 30/05/2011 12:13

I'm still in my dressing gown and eating Danish pastries

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 30/05/2011 12:17

I don't like it as I think it is a bit crap and badly written.

But I remember loving which is basically the same thing, but clever, catchy and well written (imo).

MumblingRagDoll · 30/05/2011 12:17

Ok.

IABU

Thank you for setting me straight!

Tigerseye: 'sex on fire' by Kings of Leon always makes me think of cystitis.

MN's gone mad today...

MrsFlittersnoop · 30/05/2011 12:22

Well! Am I being unreasonable in thinking this is NOT the sort of stuff I want to hear at Covent Garden Opera House, especially when I've paid over £80 for a ticket for my 14 year old DS!

What do you think of these lyrics, where a man's servant is boasting about how heartless and promiscuous his master is? I thinks this is a shocking example for young people and this man is NOT a good role model for the youth of today?

"this is a list
Of the beauties my master has loved,
A list which I have compiled.
Observe, read along with me.

In Italy, six hundred and forty;
In Germany, two hundred and thirty-one;
A hundred in France; in Turkey, ninety-one;
But in Spain already one thousand and three.

Among these are peasant girls,
Maidservants, city girls,
Countesses, baronesses,
Marchionesses, princesses,
Women of every rank,
Every shape, every age.

With blondes it is his habit
To praise their kindness;
In brunettes, their faithfulness;
In the white-haired, their sweetness.

In winter he likes fat ones.
In summer he likes thin ones.
He calls the tall ones majestic.
The little ones are always charming.

He seduces the old ones
For the pleasure of adding to the list.
His greatest favourite
Is the young beginner.

It doesn't matter if she's rich,
Ugly or beautiful;
If she wears a skirt,
You know what he does.

Disgusting!!

Poppyella · 30/05/2011 12:25

I thought Olly Murs sang that song, not Bruno Mars?????

nenevomito · 30/05/2011 12:31

Yes MrsFlittersnoop, I'd be horrified if I heard those lyrics at Covent Garden as if I'm paying those prices, I expect to hear Don Giovanni sung in Itallian.

Ambi · 30/05/2011 12:33

Love the lazy song, DD (3yrs) thinks the monkeys are hilarious. I think you're getting your knickers in a twist over nothing, what about S&M Rihanna lyrics?
Busy doing nothing is my fav pastime. Smile

MumblingRagDoll · 30/05/2011 12:34

Grin at my being so much more productive today than Bruno Mars!

Stiefeliblue · 30/05/2011 12:34

i think Milow and his "Stalker-song " is much worse....

niceguy2 · 30/05/2011 12:39

Some ppl really need to get a grip. It's a song!

LostMyIdentityAlongTheWay · 30/05/2011 12:45

Oh Lord. Not only have I never heard this song or of Bruno Mars, but also.. I'm a secondary school teacher, and teenagers are my living.
ALthough I do prefer to stick my head down a hole when it comes to modern life.

Seriously, YANBU, it does say a lot about role models for today. BOAKus maximus...

GypsyMoth · 30/05/2011 12:51

Bruno Mars is 26....so hurtling fast towards 30,and not so 'young' really

were you hoping to demonise teens here op???

inthesticks · 30/05/2011 12:51

Oh where's your sense of humour?
I've never heard it but I can imagine my 15 year old and most other 15 year old boys thinking it's hilarious.
It doesn't mean they take it literally.

EightiesChick · 30/05/2011 12:54

I haven't heard this one, but all this has reminded me of how irritated by Afroman's Because I Got High when it came out (whenever that was). Say no to drugs, kids!

howsthatworkingforyou · 30/05/2011 12:57
