I am either unfit for life, or nobody has as much to do as me....

I dont know which one it is, but I am beginning to suspect that I either have a hundred times MORE to do than everybody else, or that I am unfit/incapable of living modern life.

So far today:

*Get the kids up and off to school
*Sit down at my desk to start work (ha!)
*Deal with a plumbing issue at the house in London
*Deal with tenant who wants to move out and get another girl on the tenancy (manage by bloody incompetent F¨¨tons)
*Deal with insurance company about a damage my 5 year old did to a parked car
*Deal with the MD of the head of the franchise who build our house (franchise bankrupt), as their are issues to sort both regards to the kitchen, the bricklaying, and the groundworks which does not follow building regulations
*Deal with school inspector regards to sons bullying problems
*Look at quote for groundwork
*Arrange paving (still to do)
*Get back to person who quoted us for tarmac
*Eat Lunch. (STILL not able to start my actual work)

Does everybody else get so many issues thrown at them? If so, how do you manage to get any work done? How do structure your day to be able to deal with surprising "unknowns" that enter your day?

Because I have just had lunch, about to crack on with accounting, and yet again I feel that I have lost half a days work. In addition, I feel frustrated and overwhelmed.

Am I just unfit for modern life?

Onlion, I had my mum sectioned in January. She is in care now. But it leaves my father, who is paralyzed after a stroke 10 years ago, and in need of care. However, he is refusing to move, and as he is of sound mind, I have decided I can no longer take responsibility for him and his choices. Which means I see him for a brief visit once a week, now.

I had three very difficult years trying to get a care package in place for them, and for my mum to get a diagnosis. But the end result is that I have been overstretched, and find it very difficult to strike the right balance between my work, all the other work, my own family and children, and my duty to my parents. The way I see it, now my mum is in care and my father has made his choice, I have no option but to leave them to it. I have tried to help, and have managed somewhat.

We had a major palaver at the house in London last spring, as the tenant vandalized it, and there was a leek under the concrete floor, which involved a major insurance claim along with total refurbishment of the entire house. The tenant was in arrears, and stole all inventory of the fully furnished let....Cost us a fortune. This year, it has only been minor issues, such as leaking roof window, etc, plumbing, which is a relief.

But it leaves me feeling drained.
